Your words, not mine. Perhaps you should just read what is written without attempting to insert your own interpretation.

Jillio...what is the "real" issue here? Honesty, since I have been a member of this website, I received nothing but aggression aimed at me from you.

What have I done here that has offended you so much...is it the new deaf BF...I mean really...what is it?

The OP simply want to know if the same people who are hostile to deaf people are also hostile to other people who are different. Or are they nicer? If you witness hostility toward deaf people, let us know how they treated other people who are different.

Some of your posts (in this thread and other threads) have discounted deaf people's experience in their dealing with the hearing hence why jillio commented on it.

You would do well not to paint us as bigoted toward the hearing - many of us have to deal with the hearing on a daily basis and while most are decent people, we have to deal with hearing who discount us or treat us as if we were of subpar intelligence at best.

It's a saying. Basically we are all saying the same thing and mean the same thing, we are just calling it something it else.

The saying comes from a song by George and Ira Gershwin, from 1937. "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off."

Here are the lyrics to the refrain.

You say eether and I say eyether,
You say neether and I say nyther;
Eether, eyether, neether, nyther,
Let's call the whole thing off!
You like potato and I like potahto,
You like tomato and I like tomahto;
Potato, potahto, tomato, tomahto!
Let's call the whole thing off!
But oh! If we call the whole thing off,
Then we must part.
And oh! If we ever part,
Then that might break my heart!
So, if you like pajamas and I like pajahmas,
I'll wear pajamas and give up pajahmas.
For we know we need each other,
So we better call the calling off off.
Let's call the whole thing off!

Long story short I agreed with Jillio and many of the other member comments on this post...I just used words that unintentionally offended her and others on this site and for this I sincerely apologize. I was wrong.

Seems like there was a misunderstanding so I wont bget involved but I wanted to give you a FYI..if you make posts using quotes from a song to use as an analogy or something, pls let us know where it came from since many of us dont hear music and dont have a lot of background knowledge of the different lyrics out there. Thanks

yes, and even when we do hear music, not all of us can understand the lyrics. (I never could)

Just normal. I think it is their trademark plush toy call "Bearista." But it is in a werewolf suit, and you can pull the werewolf hood back and the bear's head is there.

Joey is very jealous as he thinks all toys are his.

It's true. I can be anal about some things which in my view are important. Communication is one of them. That combined with the fact that my job requires me to take things very literaly probably contribute to my analnessisness.

Tomato, tomahto isn't from a song. So it's not really a concern of using a song, it's more of using a reference to phonetics that go over a lot of people's head. Jiro is especially guilty of doing this, making references to phonetically pronounced words that go over deafies' head.

Regarding tomato: it's a phrase used by hearing people because there's two way of saying "tomatoes." Best way to descrie the idiom is: "you pronounce this way, I pronounce it this way; and we bickers over how it's being said. It's the SAME THING!"

Tomato - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
The pronunciation of tomato differs in different English-speaking countries; the two most common variants are /təˈmɑːtoʊ/ and /təˈmeɪtoʊ/. Speakers from the British Isles, most of the Commonwealth, and speakers of Southern American English typically say /təˈmɑːtoʊ/, while most American and Canadian speakers usually say /təˈmeɪtoʊ/.
Best comparison to ASL is:

"I sign TRY with A-handshape, you sign TRY with S-handshape."

Note I am ignoring the T-handshape introduced by SEE2.

Especially since hearing people refuses to caption the lyrics in movies and TV shows to understand why they chose that particular piece for a scene.
