Somehow I missed this post. Thanks for explanation. I had an idea it was something like that but had never heard the name for it.

Yes I realise you were joking...lol

LOL good one,
I got stuff thrown at me to get my attention it doesn't offend me at all I just think its hilarious.
I got mostly pens, pencil, (yes I know "omg that's dangerious what if it poked your eyes!"), tiny pebble rock so it don't hurt, crumbled up papers, plastic object, many things.
but if you throw stuff at me cuz I'm deaf and just for laugh with other friends now that would offend me big time (happened to me before in high school so I dropped out)

Thing that annoy me the most about hearings hmmm I could go on forever but top 3
Number 1 is "never mind!" or "oh.... I'm so sorry that ur deaf *makes pity face*" and walk away
Number 2 is people at dmv worker or teacher bitch and moan about how deaf people shouldn't drive! I got that so many time!
Number 3 is when talking to me they look away from me and look at person who interpret for me and said "tell her" or "she" I want them to talk face forward to me and talk like they're talking to me in normal way and include "you" when talking to me not "she" and please act like I'm there not invisible and totally ignoring me when I reply back and stare at interpreter I'll feel like I'm talking to blank wall.

That's our way of 'venting one's spleen'! ... it's great to have a Deaf forum to do that plus getting our regular 'deaf fix' by being in touch with AD'ers.

Most of what ticks me off about hearies has been posted here.

But there's a couple that hasn't been posted yet, and one is when a person talks to me BEHIND me. Now, that's understandable because most of the hearies haven't had any experience with deaf people and assume that everyone can hear, but almost 100% of the time, I have my hearing service dog with me. She has a vest that clearly says "HEARING SERVICE DOG". It's really annoying.

Also, I get this a lot: When I enter a building with my service dog, someone comes up to me, points at the dog, and talk to me. I am completely deaf and I try to indicate that I cannot hear what he or she is saying. Once I entered Ralph's (I was with my mother) and a policeman came up to us and told us that dogs weren't allowed inside. My mom told him Lola (the dog) was a service dog. He proceed to tell us what we should do (keep the dog 2 feet away from the food, etc etc). My mom was seething with anger after that. It's very sad when average people know more about the laws than the police.

Good post. Hearies (some who even know we're deaf) talking behind us is a common complaint, and you're right . . . they just cannot keep our silent world in mind very long.

Many here have service dogs, and the ignorance about them is legend. The misinformed cop seems more like a mall rent-a-badge than a real policeman, but real cops can be quite ignorant of the law (for which there's no excuse).

Here is another one.....

I hate it when a hearing person comes up to my ear and then talk out loud into my ear like I should be able to understand what he is saying to me. I may be deaf but it does hurt when someone screams into my ear.

That happened once when I was in the 6th grade. A fellow student leaned over and tried to whisper in my ear. I was like, "I'm deaf. That means I can't hear you." I think I embarrassed the poor girl.

Most of the time I get the "tell her" thing. If I'm with an interpreter, I usually lipread and just answer the question. I love the little jump they do - "omg she's deaf but she can talk???" *ewg*

Ahhh....that's the point.....you don't always know when you are before a deaf individual. We don't carry signs.....myself...I don't like to advertize it as I've had numerous people want to rob me cuz they learn I'm deaf and assume I'm dumb or easy to sneak up on. Quite the contrary. I stopped wearing my aid cuz it identified me along with red hair, scars and a limp. I was a mark.
A funny thing....I don't hear thru doors...I was knocking and guess the inhabitant thought I heard him saying 'who's there' ...said nada, knock again....he opens the door all enraged and NAKED. lol...flipping idiot.... The life of a deafie...a lady inhabitant???..................................... no such luck for this cat.

I agree with a lot you said, but I never knock on strange doors I can't see through. It's an exercise in complete futility, because I have no clue what's happening on the other side.

When I go alone to a friend's house, I'll say beforehand that I'll knock but please don't yell "Come in," 'cause I won't.

For my own house, I have a door button that flashes a strobe. I tell friends about it, and if strangers can't see to press the button, then they bruise their knuckles for nothing.

I hate hearing administrators who take over Deaf schools and won't consider the wishes and needs of the parents of Deaf children. Most of them are only interested in the budget and have no clue! They hire people that aren't right for the school, and they fire people that are good for the school. At least that is how it is in Oregon. They don't promote our Deaf school, and they automatically turn hearing parents toward mainstreaming and implants without informing them that there are other options. Every parent should have all of the information. Some people in Oregon don't even know that we have a Deaf school!!!!!!!!! No wonder the enrollment goes down, and then the budget suffers too.!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree too about hearing administrators who dont understand deaf children's needs whether at a public or deaf schools.

That sucks about Oregon School for the Deaf being run down by ignorant hearing administrators.

I think there's been a couple of state deaf schools shut down because of that?

Another personal favorite, and the reason why I hate family gatherings: *joke being told, everyone laughs* What was so funny? "Oh I'll tell you later." :

GAH!

GAH!
I read a woman of deaf children with CIs who wrote in her blog that her goal is to get all the deaf schools shut down because it would save taxpayers money.

Now, that is one comment that did seriously tick me off! What does she know about deaf schools?

No doubt. But how much damage will she do in the meantime, not just to her kids, but to others? Sad.

Ugh, that annoys me. My dad's said before that I'm just "faking being hard of hearing". I must be really good, because I managed to trick that machine thing that detects the sound coming out of your ear, and trick an audiologist! I don't have 20dB hearing loss in my left ear and 50-70dB hearing loss in my right ear, no. I must've just tricked it! You'd think your dad would be more considerate, but no.

I have to agree with the covering of the mouth when someone's talking, too. That annoys me, but I think this one annoys me more: when they're talking to you, and they start rubbing their face (including mouth) with the palm of their hand and don't stop talking, and then say, "Well? Whaddya think?"

Another thing that annoys me a LOT is when I go round a friend's house, they have the TV the quietest volume known to humankind, and they don't turn it up much. They never subtitle even when I ask them to, my friend wants to, but his girlfriend is an overbearing bitch, basically, and tells him he can't put the subtitles on "because they annoy her", and then she gets even more annoyed when I'm not watching the TV at their house but sitting in another room or reading a book, I'm "being ignorant".

This woman on TV once said, "My kids are mainstreamed and use only speech, but they will always be deaf, they will never be normal". Ouch. That really shocked me.

Precisely! She's a dim bulb, that one. Because one should see the full picture of what happens if a school for the deaf were forced to close.

*More deaf students losing their safety zone
*Many demoralized kids because they're delayed and not getting the help they needed.
*Govt'd end up having to pay for their medical care if they ended up with many problems caused by isolation, delayed development, lack of access etc.
*Families moving out of state because of no school for the deaf or forcing the state government to fund their child's education out of the state.

Deaf schools, in some ways, has saved the sanity of many deaf students who went there after failed beginnings in mainstream setting And having access to teachers who can sign, and there's rise in students' personal confidence because there's socialisation, equal access etc.

Unfortunately, this woman reminds me of a mother with deaf child from deafread who's pushing many parents to implant their children, and she denies there's some cons to having CI despite factual evidence and proof. She works for CI industry in some way. Talk about biased big time!

I hope her kids will find deaf culture and deaf community someday because they might be made to feel ashamed about their deafness because of her.

Let's hope she and others, who are anti-sign, anti-deaf education etc, will end up eating their humble pie someday. I would relish the day if that ever comes, hehe.
