Can you HEAR....

I thought I would create this thread after reading http://alldeaf.com/showthread.php?p=504036#post504036 to see if any of you are able to hear it..

When I was working in Canton a couple of years ago, I heard a LOUD sound and didn't relized where the sounds was coming from until my dad told me it was a tornado siren that was going off which warns people about a tornado or any type of storm that may be coming, and it help others be prepare and get into a safe shelter etc...

I thought wow that's cool cause I didn't think I could hear it and I wasn't even wearing my hearing aids that day, but my goodness it was so darn loud which it nearly gave me a heart attack...

I'm wondering if anyone here is able to hear a warning sirens going off ?...

I'm hearing, but your story reminded me of a funny story that happened recently:

I interpret for several deaf students, one of whom recently started wearing hearing aids after not using them for quite some time. In English, the teacher tends to turn music on in the background while the students (mostly hearing) are doing silent reading. The day after he got his HAs, he came to class, sat down, and began reading. When the teacher turned the music on, the student suddenly looked up with a confused look on his face. He glanced over and me and said, "Did someone just turn music on?" I smiled, pointed at the radio, and said, "Yep. He turns it on most of the time while you're reading." The student look bewildered, said, "weird," and went back to his reading.

I have been through a tornado. The siren didn't work, but I wouldn't be able to hear sleeping at night. The tornado occured minutes before getting up for school. Now we have a weather radio that goes off every time there is a warning about tornados, thurnderstorms, flood, etc. I like that better than sirens, but it's worthless at night for me. I thought that was a miracle because what if it occured while we were waiting at the bus stop?

Now they have a siren lights for inside the house for the Hearing Impaired.. If there's a tornado warning in your area.. the light will flash in the house. That's new to me...

I do not hear at all even with HA. I only rely on feeling of the loud sound.

I feel that some members are missing the point of this thread, She did not asked if you hear anything, She asked, if you have ever heard of a sound of a tornado siren? Have you or not experience hearing it. If you haven't, say so.

I do understand it, if I am in torando valley, I would not able to hear the siren sound anyways. Unless I feel the siren.
