Hearing/Deaf Relationships to Work

I have been with a hearing woman for 4 years. My woman is very concerned about me being left out when we go out with our friends who are mostly hearing. I want our relationship to work out but I would like to know how I can talk to our hearing friends. I am terribly shy and I don't want to rely on my woman who has to interpret for me. Any feedback? Anything that will help me to be assertive and approach with hearing friends. I like them because they are funny and cool.
