I remember reading something about that in a deaf newsletter. So I googled it up and found a very TINY quote. He did have some hearing problems due to his role on the TV show, 24. Not only to mention the many other movie roles involving a lot of action scenes.

But it hasn't been confirmed that the damages is permanent. I don't consider him to be a deaf person till he cannot hear to a certain level. More likely to be hard-of-hearing and close to being deaf as of now.

Alright. I don't even consider I. Jordan King as Deaf. He wasn't born deaf. He lost his hearings at the age of 19 from motorcycle accident.

It doesn't matter to me, at least not in my opinion. Rob Lowe is pretty much hearing, not hard of hearing. Only he cannot use one of his ears, at least that's what I noticed in some interview footage I've seen him in.

Sure, he may had played a role of a "deaf" man in the TV mini-series, The Stand. But it was badly played if you ask me.

Deafness is so vaguely defined these days. This thread is really to mention these who are TRULY impacted by their hearing losses.

No need to be rude toward me with the "duh" remark, I don't appreciate it.

Jordan King is deaf, not partially deaf. Big difference.

*cough* he can talk just like normal hearing people do and hear with hearing aids, understands what people are saying. Being Born deaf and/or deaf at early age, growing up with the unnatural/imperfect speech and cannot understand what people are saying with the hearing aids. That's big difference.

Jordan is deaf in both ears. He has to rely on his hearing aids to hear and understand people. That is being deaf for real. Otherwise, we'll have to refer to 30 million "hearing impaired" Americans as being deaf.

Rob Lowe doesn't. Nor do I see Sutherland doing that yet. It's too soon to assume that he's permanently deaf. These types of hearing losses are temporary in some cases.

Sigh. Then this thread about who's Deaf and who's really not deaf (HOH and late deafened)...is utter bullshit. Thheeennn Lou Ferrigno is not real deaf anyways! He is like Rob Lowe (normal speech and rely on H.A. without interpreter needed.) Whatfuckever.

IMHO:

I. King Jordan identifies himself with the Deaf community.

Rob Lowe and Keifer Sutherland identify with the hearing community. They do not call themselves "Deaf actors".

The general public does not identify Lowe and Sutherland as "Deaf actors."

The general public does not identify Rush Limbaugh as a "Deaf" talk show host. In fact, his medium of choice is radio, hardly the choice of a "Deaf" person.

There are many older actors and singers who are late-deafened or HoH, and use HA, but they are not considered "Deaf" performers because they have never identified with the Deaf community or culture.
