Gallaudet Football on the verge of first ever NCAA playoff berth | wusa9.com

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- The Beating of the drum is a practical tradition at Gallaudet University . It signals the start of football practice.
Players who are deaf or hard of hearing can 'feel' the reverberations.

But there's another sound echoing throughout campus.

The buzz is about the teams undefeated season, 8-0 with just two more games to play. Game number 8 last weekend was an unbelievably dramatic win against Becker. The Bison blocked a field goal and returned it 79 yards for a touchdown.

"This team has been diff compared to the teams we've had in the past. we have 54 players on the team and we call them 54 strong," said head coach Chuck Goldstein.

Gallaudet has had a football team since 1883. The school is credited with introducing the huddle to the game. Being dead or hard of hearing isn't an impediment on the field.

Just ask Adham Talaat this 6'6, 270-pound defensive lineman is an NFL prospect. At least two dozen teams have contacted Gallaudet about him, including the hometown Redskins. Talaat could be the school's first player to make it to the pros.

"I'm just humble and grateful. Makes me want to work even harder," Talaat said.

But before the NFL can come calling, Talaat and his teammates have some business to finish. Their next challenege will happen on this field Saturday against Ana Maria college. If they win that game they'll win the conference championship.

My brother and several of my friends are there rooting them on. Wish I could be there as well. Judging from the pics posted on FB, looks like a packed house over there. :)
