[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D4HFxpb4oCs&feature=share]thedeafcommunity.org: An investigative report - YouTube[/ame]

This is an 8-minute video with the results of an investigation into thedeafcommunity.org.

The description below the video:

After receiving several tips from various individuals, journalist Tara Schupner Congdon worked with a team of researchers and IT technicians to investigate My Business - Home, its origins and its administrators. They discovered that the website was privately registered by Tina Morris, a hearing mother of a deaf boy with bilateral cochlear implants who uses the LSLS/oral method. Morris is a strong advocate of auditory-verbal/LSLS/oral education. Various pieces of evidence, collected in this video, suggest Morris set up this site to back a change.org petition supporting two Florida bills that some groups argue will funnel funding for all deaf children to private AVT/LSLS schools for the deaf. Obviously, administrators of thedeafcommunity.org must be much more transparent and forthcoming in order to better determine the validity of this website and petition.

Interesting. I had not heard of this before. Thank you for sharing this information.

Typical of the dishonesty and obfuscation that often goes along with active CI parents.

What's the issue? As you told me before, the Deaf Community readily accepts all deaf, including CI and hearing aid users as well as people who do not sign, no matter how they choose to hear and learn. In fact, they even accept hearing people so the mother who started this site would accepted as well. Right?

She doesn't speak for all of us. I don't agree with pushing the oral only philosophy without a fair mention of ASL and making it seem like all of us advocate for it. It is a fraud.

surprised didn't heard it really .. it is very serious! interesting.. I don't trust to them sites! look likes solicited

That is really off topic, and not dealing with the subject of the OP, but who are you saying told you that?
Edit to say, it looks like you are talking to me since it is right below my post, and I certainly don't think everyone should speak for the Deaf.

And I especially dislike audist deaf people. Just so we are clear. And that won't change.

I'm not speaking to any particular person(when I do I will quote that person), just replying to the topic which is asking for, "thoughts". I was told before, in another thread, that the views of the Deaf Community being against CI and hearing aids was outdated and flawed. And, that anyone who still thinks like this needs to get updated. So, the issue is very much on topic. If the Deaf Community welcomes everyone, why would there be an issue of someone pushing another way for a deaf person to learn?

Does that mother advocate for ASL?

If not, then why should we accept her if she doesn't accept our language?

I thought language wasn't an issue:

As I posted before, if you accept the Anna Mindess denfiition:

Deaf culture - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

According to Anna Mindess, "it is not the extent of hearing loss that defines a member of the Deaf community but the individual's own sense of identity and resultant actions."[5] As with all social groups that a person chooses to belong to, a person is a member of the Deaf community if he or she "identifies him/herself as a member of the Deaf community, and other members accept that person as a part of the community."http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaf_culture#cite_note-bakpad1978-6

Is this, in fact, the truth or not?

Personally, I don't think the woman behind web site is part of the Deaf Community. I agree with the other members it's a scam.

But, you can't have it both ways, either the Deaf Community has a solid understanding of what it is to be a member or it does not. Right?

From Wikipedia? Really? You can do better than that.

Did you even watch the video? This was not about a woman asking to be a part of the Deaf Community. This was a woman saying she represents the ENTIRE deaf community. (hint: The word "entire" was bolded in the video and on her website.) After watching the video, did you agree with her?

Edit: Added "in the video and on her website" to clarify where it was bolded.

I don't agree with her.

My question is: If one person accepts her as a member, is she, in fact, a member?

Its been years like this. I never understand why lots of deaf peeps who favors of advertising "speaking or listening" that has not created a group but use the idea of deaf community to advertise about speak or listen. what heck is that?

I don't agree with her either.

But that's not what this is about. Not about who's a member or not.

Her website is dedicated to the oral-only deaf. And somehow she maintains her website represents ALL the d/Deaf. No way.

I'm not even in the Deaf Community and I agree with this.

I totally understand. Thank you for that, "clarification".
