J88

I recently came across a code where a policemen mentions code j88 when interacting with deaf . I am wondering if this is true and has anyone encountered this themselves?

I believe that is a requirement for Illinois resident who is deaf. That way, if I get caught for revving my turbocharged engine, I can just point to "J88" on drivers license. They'll know I'm deaf.

Just tell to DMV. I have one. Once law enforcement officer read my license plate and just simple walk and tell me to relocation to safely place.

Some law enforcement officer use loud speaker and thought driver was ignored order and made more pissed off and call to backup or probably shoot.

So J88 is better than sorry.

No matter. Few of my Deaf friends still got tickets for neon light or bad muffler or boombox was too loud.
