Forget to post that send naughty puppy off to boot camp with master trainer. He is gone for 3 weeks (YAY!!). When he returns home he will be good puppy.

Kind of funny. Trainer write to ask for details on naughty behaviour so they can tailor training for him. Ask me if he is 'crate' trained. I say, "He ate it, so, no."

When people ask how much he cost will say $10,000 and counting. Leather chaise chewed, kitchen table set chewed, on 3rd TV remote, 2nd lawnmower, 2nd weedeater, carpet repair from chewing tube to toilet that leak water to second floor, patio chairs chewed, BBQ cover chewed, back stairs chewed, back yard dug up with holes, fines for barking too much and fine for escaping yard (dug hole) and run off, hump two girls legs and family take to impound where I pick up.

LOL My Hudson chewed PS 3 cable wire, internet cable wire, sandals, and destroyed tissues, paper towel, and toilet paper. He even chewed a plastic cup. My friend and I discplined him. Finally, he is doing better except pulling a towel down, humping my leg or arm, and barking loudly when he hears someone walking by.

He is very affectionable and loves to hug you and kiss you so much.

Am wondering if I should patent some "Doggie Chewing Gum"??...Seems everything taste good to ur Doggie....but you gotta love that pooch to be able to keep him after all he has destroyed...especially ur furniture!...I would be livid if my Doggie did that.....

All I can say is, whenever you leave the house, put on some Rock 'n Roll music to keep him dancing....lots of Juicy Fruit chewing gum, maybe some Doggie Porn on ur computer....get him a couple of Doggie Blow Up Dolls.

(I tried to get her to skype but she couldn't figure out how to charge.)

Yes, when pick him up this Thursday they will spend hour with me, boyfriend and dog to teach me. Will give me a book to explain what he has been trained. They also use ASL signs that *I* use as part of training. So, think all will be good when he is come home. Miss my boy.

on a serious note, guys - BE VERY CAREFUL with GUM. Most human gums, many candies, toothpastes, mouthwashes, mints and many "diabetes-friendly" human products contain an ingredient called xylitol, which is TOXIC to dogs. Causes liver failure. Very small amount of this item will cause damage in very short time. If you think your dog <no idea about cats> has licked or ingested something with xylitol in it, this is a medical emergency and requires immediate trip to your own vet or E.R. if after-hours.

on the subject of dogs and "chewi-ness" - best thing is to prevent dog from access to chewing in-appropriate things - that means hiding/picking up underwear, socks, pencils, remotes, food wrappers, shoes, paper....keep bedroom and bathroom doors closed or use baby gates and crates. Give dog something appropriate to chew on instead of him looking for something to do.
For things like large wooden furniture, baseboards....try spraying Bitter Apple to prevent the chewing and ALSO give him something he CAN do. Dogs do not know what they're supposed to do in human households and they have no concept of "that was bad" and "this is good".

Eating the crate can be true separation anxiety - which will be made worse by punishment and use of crate - or it can be that it was introduced too quickly.
To determine which it is, see what the dog does if left out of a crate, say in a secure room, when owner just leaves room or goes outside briefly; compare to when other people leave room or go outside briefly. Video reaction.
True separation anxiety may require medication and lifetime management, not something you can train out altogether.

Oh, try all those things but not bitter apple. Used tobasco and he loved it.

Have doors closed, gates up, have chew toys and bones *always*. House was puppy proof but he figure out how to open cupboard door and chew on Costo sized saran wrap. *THAT* was fun to clean up.

But, positive he will be good boy when he is come home. Should be. Three full weeks with master trainer.

Had a friend with a collie who got 100's of those plastic "ball pit" balls and a launcher, every day Sammies Job was to collect all the balls, and put them into a plastic bin, the next day the plastic bin was poured into the hopper and the ball thrower machine would scatter them all over they yard...

No, he do not really have job. At first think train as Service Dog but decide just want him as pet.

I like 'ball thrower machine.' Will look at Petsmart to see if they have. He would *LOVE* that!

OMG! Pick up AD dog from hell today.

*What* a transformation!! We can actually let him walk around house without fear of him eating furniture, TV remotes, shoes or lawnmowers!!

He do not 'pull' me when we go for walk and they use about 8 hand signs for us all to use so no voice needed.

He 'sit' and 'lay down' and 'come' on sign command.

Trainer do say that he need a 'job' but other than ball game mentioned above does anyone have other suggestion?

You could use a kong to keep him busy for a while. You stuff it with treats and the dog has to get the treats out. I put in bits of meat, bacon, crunched up dog biscuit or peanut butter. Then you stuff a big hunk of cheese in to seal it. The dog has to get through the hunk of cheese to get the goodies. Once the dog gets really good, you can freeze it to make it harder. Might also be somewhat of a substitute for chewing on something inappropriate.

Other Jobs-

Find and collect- have the dog find an object, collect all instances of that object and put them into a basket. (socks/laundry basket)

Herding- depending on the dog, some dogs can be taught to carefully herd other animals without nipping or attacking...

Long walks- now that your dog isn't a terror to walk, a long walk everynight.

(( here are more suggestions Need a great interactive toy for a bored dog. ))

Lets see-

Companion Dog -Get a lot of socialization in and find out about the local nursing home requirements (canine Good Citizen or no requirement)

Teach the object names/ 'go find it' - Teach the object names of things like keys, shoes, remote, glasses - ya know stuff that gets lost - teach him to find these things and bring them to a specific spot- on command... (then he can help in the morning.
