My dog Sweetie who is 13 years old that I loved so much passed away in October 2003 (I told you all about it before)...I am not still over her and it still hurts me.. when I see pictures of her, I start to cry.
I try to find another dog that looks just like her but it's just so hard. No one will ever replace my Sweetie and I have been dogsick lately also. ![]() How do u deal with it?

I know what you mean, and I am sorry about your pet. I can only tell you time will help make it easier. Don't hold back in the beginning, and if you need to cry.. do it. I did, when my beloved ferrets died. I took it very, very hard. They were my girls. Nobody will ever replace them either. It got easier for me to accept what happened with more time. I made a webpage to educate people about ferrets in my ferrets' memory, and it made me feel so much better. Maybe it will help you if you do something to honor Sweetie's memory and celebrate her life for what it really meant.

Try to think positive thoughts. I know that you miss your dog, but it is time to move on. Try to think about other things. You should think happy thoughts about how your life was and don't be sad over it.

I had a big dog, my parents gave it away. I had a 2nd dog, it was put to sleep. I got a 3rd dog, it was put to sleep. I got a 4th dog, it was put to sleep. I'm still alive and striving through these days just fine.

WildKatress - I'm so sorry for the loss of your dog. Animals are like family and they are large part of our life. Can't imagine losing a companionship like that. I went through the same thing like you are going through right now...
I had a 17 year old family cat named "Penny" died on July 12, 1998, imagine I remembered the date. My mom and I took it *very* hard when she died. Things weren't the same without her around and all the things she did were just not there anymore which hurts us even more. Mom and I talked and cried about her all day and night on the day she died. After I got married in 2001, I made an extra photo of her in my bedroom on my bureau because it makes me feel closer with her even though she's not here. My mom did the same thing plus she planted a tree where she was buried in her back yard. Every year we sit out in the back yard near her tree and have a heart to heart conversation about her. It's been almost 6 years and we still talk about her, but not as emotional as we were at the beginning. It means we've healed over time. Of course, she will never ever be forgotten. Just make sure you talk about it with someone because it'll get easier. Even it hurts to talk about it, but you'll feel better afterwards. I'm glad you came here and talk about it. We're happy to share our feelings. *HUGS* |

Awwwwww thanks! I love my Sweetie so dearly. I would like to post a picture of her but no scanner yet. I will have to ask my aunt in law Kaylee to scan them for me so you all can see what she looks like. I had her since 1990..she was just a sweet baby and very playful. She always thought my butt was a pillow so she d sleep on it, LoL! She always wake me up every morning with a lick on my face and she loves to eat bacon, popcorn and ribs..anything it has to do with meat. She also loves to play with toys and go outside. The only time she would get mad at me is that I have to give her a bath. She HATES water.. LoL. She was just a happy dog.

wildka... i can feel ya cuz i was having
a difficult time dealing with my dog's death i had for about 13 years i took her to the vet almost every month but she got worse and worse My vet suggested that i put her to sleep for her peace thats best for her situation i never got over it for years. NO ONE can tell me to "move on and get over it" cuz it's my own feelings and my own dog. Some people suggested that I get another dog but it can NOT be replaced. I will never be able to get another dog as good as her, but maybe maybe many years later... I love my dog and I still miss her. That's A wonderful dog who saved my life a few times.

Sorry for your loss of your dog. I know how you feel. I used to have a chocolate point siamese cat named Freddy, he and I was very close since we both were babies (We were of the same age til he died) And even though he was my grandmother's cat, he'd always be by my side.. follow me everywhere at the house, sleep with me every night. My grandmother said he wouldn't part away from me even since I was a baby. He'd sleep beside me in my crib.. He was such a sweet cat who got along with my other 2 cats just fine, especially dogs too. His best friend was a neighbor's dog which is a sheepdog.. big dog. lol I miss him sleeping beside me on the bed and following me everywhere, staying by me.. There will be no cat like him.. no cat can ever replace him. When my grandmother and I found out that he was having lung and kidney failure, he got skinny..lost a lot of weight and his vet said it is best to have him put to sleep
He was put to sleep on July '97 at age 17. My grandmother and I took it pretty hard but got over it slowly.. we will never forget our memories with him..he will always be in my heart. |

Yes, I know the feelings, I miss my alastian dog Sasha, died in her sleep, at the age of 9, totally unexpectant in my bedroom. I cried for all SIX months and I accept she is gone, but she will be special dog in my heart and I still pined for her today. She helped me to settle down in my adopted country Australia from England!
I bought another alastian puppy soon after her departure, it was my mistaken, and this dog turn out to be absoultely HELL, and I give her away soon after!! Because she was only ONE available for sale, and I should study her first, but I was too quick back then, dogs have all different personalities. Looking back I should have take it slowly and shopping around first! I gave her away because she bited my hubby's leg because she dont like seeing him mowing backyard, which is her territories!! I should think of my 3 girls first. There are some sympathay cards available in Australian Newsagents shop which surprised me to show we consider pets as part of our family lives too. I am sorry for your sad loss, hugs

Wild,
I'm so sorry about your dog. I wasn't here in October of last year, but I am sure you had a hard time. My cat passed away in August...it was so sudden. She got sick one day and was dead three days later. My husband had to bring her to a quiet place and lay her there...I was asked if I wanted to go, but I couldn't handle it.How does anyone deal with it? Maybe you can make a collage? Cut some pictures out of your dog and paste them onto a board...then frame it and hang it up in her memory. It is perfectly okay to grieve over a pet...after all, it's your pets that love you unconditionally when no one else seems to...Or you could take her collar and have it bronzed...something...no one would think that was silly or extreme. I think the more you love a dog or cat, the more it hurts when they're gone. My condolences, I'm very sorry. Malfoyish |

My dog Muggs passed away last monday... She was 14 years old.. It's hard to deal with it.. but however i uddy it's time for her to die... so my dad put her to vet and put her to sleep.
Because she's been crabby, peeing, pooping in house for 3 weeks.. she can't hold it.. also been crabby around people.. starting to hate me, my parents, my son.. just want to be alone and hiding somewhere. so its time.. its hard to lose a pet that i had for 14 years. now i'm fine... hoping someday i get a new puppy soon ![]()

Aww im sorry to hear about your dog, Wildkatress, i know how you feel. they are like member of the family, not pets..I have a almost 2 year old Pitbull dog which we love so much! He is a very sweet dog, very smart and very protective of me and my husband..I cant imagine life without him. So if we ever lose him, we would of course be very sad. It would be good if you get a new puppy to help you to get over your dog's death..Just think he had a loving home and lived a long life..most animals arent that lucky!

Am attached and in LOVE!

I take the deaths of my beloved cats very hard. I've lost so many cats due to many factors. Natural death, run away, run over by car, etc.
Several kittens from my mum in law's cat's litters have died due to suffocation (by accident) when the mother cat sat on the kittens whilst feeding her other kittens. |

With me and my family.. It's humor. Don't ask me why! But, we always use humor to lighten up a dark moment in life.
One teenager girl was so upset with the death of her cat. My mom casually asked the girl, "Where did you bury your cat?" The teen replied, "In my mother's rose garden!" My mom replied, "Aww, that's great fertilizer for them flowers!!" The teenage girl gave a look and blinked at my mom, then the poor girl started cracking up. So, the moral of the story: "The grass is always greener on the funny side!" |

I sympathize with you Wild, Malfy and Katzie and P.R.1971,
Believe me, I understand how you all felt. My first cat died few years ago. He was my best chum. But he was known as rabbit, fish and bird as well rodent killer in the neighbourhood. He was killed by hit and run, I presume. Though, I've had my suspicion but no evidence to suggest otherwise. When I first found out from the Council informing us the death of my cat as it was they who found him. I didn't eat much for the first week or so. Was very down in the mouth for about a month Mother suggested we go looking for another cat to adopt and we did look at the Lost dogs home. But I couldn't make a decision and went home crying. So it took me about a year before I got around to looking into adopting a cat. I got a Ragdoll cat and he's the light of my life. Just like the passing of humans, you grieve just the same as you'd grieve for your pet's passing. |

Thanks Miss-D and I sympathize with you, too and I agree with your last paragraph. My mom went to her brother crying that we lost our beloved cat Penny of course the brother sympathized with us, but his son (my cousin) said "It's just a cat *rme*" That was pretty cold. My cousin never had a pet in his life and he's 33 years old which explains why he feels that way about animals. He's got a wife for over a year now so maybe she'll change his perspective?
![]() Anyway, I'm glad you have Ragdoll (what's with the name? LOL) now. Same here, glad we have 9 year old Conan and Oreo (same liter) whom we adore very much. They kept us together since we started dating and that was 10 years ago! |
