It's autistic, visually impaired and maybe hearing impaired?

Don't mind the title, I did it in jest. Basically it is self-deprecating in a British manner regarding what "professionals" said about me.

I just wanted to share a part of my life. :)

Story:

I wanted a dog-like animal without having to worry about finding a dog-friendly apartment (or otherwise I would had opted for a Pembroke Corgi or another Shiba Inu), and I decided on getting a ferret. So I got him based on the fact he seemed to be oblivious to the people around him at the pestore.

I love the fact that he is bratty and obnoxious. However he used to sleep with me and he would tackle my leg whenever I would forget to turn water off or the stove off before I started ignoring him out of an ongoing three-years long severe depression in January. He just finally started to warm up to me again in the last two months or so with stuff like doing the weasel war dance and tackling my legs out of nowhere. :) I hope he will go back to be a bratty ferret that like to sleep with humans.

Now... so far... I got him to say please when he want a treat, in the closest way a ferret can to copying ASL. So far he will come if he see the sign R-O-U if it is within his vision range of about two or three feet. Otherwise I have to clap my hands or knock on the table to get his attention. He doesn't always come though, but he does perk up his head! :naughty:

So... meet Rousseau (pronounced roo-soh) the ferret. Yes, named after Jean-Jacques Rousseau (I am big on the Enlightenment era.) I just call him Rou (pronounced roo) or Rou-Rou for short.

I hope you enjoy the pictures. :D

Aww! You had to wake up Roo-Roo in the last picture. *sighs* Just want to scoop him up and cradle him in my arms.

Interesting thing to note...

In Edmonton, he used to chatter, or snicker, more like "clicking" to my aided ear, for about a week after I got him but I never really paid any attention to it. So he just stopped. My hearing friends thought that it was odd he was "mute."

Well, he started chattering again when I left him with a friend for a few days to babysit while I went to Victoria about 6 months ago. Then he just stopped again a day or two after I picked him up.

It's interesting how animals subject themselves to our world.

I used to have a ferret who was deaf. They make great pets.

I enjoy ferrets. I used to handle them at an animal exhibit I volunteered at for a while at a museum. They bright, curious little guys. Rosseau is very adorable!

He does look sweet! Spoiled & fat!...Never knew ferrets had teeth such as this! Bet they could do some serious damage if they needed to defend themselves....We've never had a ferrett.....

ferrets actually are carnivores <hence the teeth> and tend to do well on raw meat diets.

Thanks all.

But yes, they are type of hyper-carnivore (meaning they need an exclusively meat diet) like cats; dogs are considered as hypo-carnivore (meaning they need some plant matters ie. grass to digest properly.)

Anyway, he slept with me last night. :o

And I swear that bugger outsmart me every time... he figured out a new way to get into trouble. * rolls eyes *

*kidnapping Rousseau*

I adore ferrets. I had one before but my landlord made me gave'em away :mad2:

oh yea - I have a pix exactly like the way Rousseau was sleeping. When I posted it up, my friends asked me - omg is he dead????

Hahaha.

My landlord picked up my ferret and asked if he was dead once since he just drooped. That thing is a heavier sleeper than my stepdad.
