Humans don’t ask for their fingertips to be amputated and neither does the cats or any other animals.

If humans and any animals are in a need of an amputation for a medical reason to avoid having their limbs gangrened then it is for a very good reason. An amputation to save a life is necessary but to prevent a human or an animal from destroying things is not necessary at all.

I am not trying to start a war in here but I am just expressing my concerns and sympathy for these cats that were not so lucky after they were declawed.

Liebling’s cat was almost killed by another animal and her front claws saved her life. She is not saying that a car killed her cat because it had claws.

Haven’t you looked in these websites to read what several other cat owners went through after they had their cats declawed? My Aunt was so heartbroken after she lost her cat to infection it had from the declawing. She never fully knew the full procedures of the declawing because her vet never told her. She only learned more about it after her cat died. Again, NOT ALL declawings are successful. I refuse to take a chance to have my cat declawed because it may not be successful for her.

I'm just saying that front claws aren't a guaranteed protection for runaway cats.

You are right but what some of us are saying is that the front paws are the most needed when it comes to their defense from other animals.

I find good when the people are open mind to look at positive information before their decision will be made. Itīs good education for everyone including us. Itīs similar example with CI issues, etc.

Do you mean itīs weird to educate my children to obey/respect my rules and let them know what kind of anything they are allow or not?

I hope that I misunderstand your post.

For me, without educate my children and animal then they would act misbehavior. I donīt care if you think my view to educate my childen and animal to be behave, obey, respect etc is weird.

I would be glad to have a good and loving pet owner who correct my behavior and show me what I should do or not when I were a cat.

Exactly, thatīs what I am trying to say in my previous post. You find better word to explain the difference between life-threatening and non-necessary surgery than me.

Yes, itīs not my intend to make a war with anyone here but positive my posts to express my own feeling - the same thing what I did in several different debated threads like CI, spanking, etc.

The human fingertips and animal claw are about protect from anything and useful for something... Without fingertips and claw, they can´t protect or use anything to save their life. I would say the same with runaway children as well.

I have the same feeling as you... Many people have the same feeling as well... I hope it will turn into illegal... I am really glad that US websites convince many people at last.

Red face

I love to see my cats look at their paws and make sure that their paws are clean before let their paw to open to see their claws and bite/lick to clean their claws and then look their claws again after finish bite/lick their claws to make sure that their claws look "pretty" and satisfy themselves like we human look at our nails and take care of our nails and make us feel good like that. I LOVE their expression "proud" look on their claws...

As we all know that amputated is there for a reasons. If animals or person got hit by a car and can't use their legs or arms by getting hit by car or have cancers or other health issue to save them. So, they might have to amputated to save a life. Some animals do well with 3 legs and still lead a normal life and that same goes to humans too. Sometimes we have to save a life.

Well, then, I'm not a good-hearted person, so I guess there's no point in trying to convince me that declawing is wrong.

She's not a cat, so the statement is weird. Cats don't consciously think about "rules" and respecting their owners. Projecting our human viewpoints onto animals is bizarre (unless you are Beatrix Potter and writing a fiction story).

Fingertips certainly don't save anyone from road accidents. So? I thought we were discussing cat claws.

Your post said nothing about your children. You said, "I would obey/respect what my owner say and also their rule, too and will know what kind of anything I am allow or not because I want their love and affection if I were a cat."

To the best of my knowledge, your children aren't kittens, so I don't think you were talking about your children.

Yes, you did misunderstand. No where did we discuss amputating your children's fingertips.

For the umpteenth time, I never said anything about you educating your children. I said that you putting yourself into the mind of the cat was weird.

Fine. When you become a cat I hope you get a good and loving pet owner.
