I got bit by a dog ONCE... I was maybe 19 yrs old, I was playing with my best friend, Gabrielle's dog named Duke(Black Lab and Husky mixed). I grabbed the sock from him, he just played with me and I pulled it from him so I can throw it for him somehow he bit my right, index finger and I was like OW! Then, Gabrielle's mom grabbed him and threw him outside for punish... I was like wtf... So, they gave him up because he growl at all of men, I mean ALL of men... Even boys who is kid... I was like geez.. Sounds not good..

My dog, Elsa, she has a thing for male vistors too, she has more cautions with the male visitors, than female. Normally she would bark alot when they come in the house, if my dad or I or even the rest of the family not home, who know what will happen. But anyway, it takes her a bit longer to trust the male visitors than the females. She still barks at one of my male friends who often come to my house to chat, which is odd cuz he had been coming here for last 3 years or so, i think its because this guy don't talk with his voice, so elsa never really hear him talking and it makes him more nervous or something. But I was damn surprise when he came in the house and i was only one home but didnt hear him as i was on compuiter, he had my wallet as i went out with him earlier that day, and i forgot my wallet. Anyway he knocked at the door and nobody answer, so he came in but elsa did not attack or anything. whew. I think Elsa is ok with him but just want to tease him or something lol. |

Ahh! Now I was correct all along, People kept saying if you train the dogs improper, most likely the dogs would attack, Which is not always true. Kalista just posted her story, her dog is a friendly family dog out of blue attacked a family member. The same story, that happened to my Aunt's Doberman pinscher dog attacked my nephew when he was a young child. Some people say, because the dogs attack from being in broken homes? My aunt Cathy had a beautiful home, love and caring parent would never treat her dogs any shape or form of abuse or neglect.
Thanks for sharing your story Kalista, your story had proved my point. I'm sorry about that young girl, she looked pretty bad from what I see in that photo.

Im not sure why dogs do that. But I knew one thing if they train dogs wrong way and give them wrong idea then they will start attack? I am not sure, I have to ask my Uncle abt that since he is trainer dogs for police and firefighter.

No, not always the case, Read Kalista's story again and mine, dogs can snapped but people don't want to believe it, they always pointed the blame at the owners of pets, It can happen either way bad owners nor the dogs itself.

Aww I'm sorry to hear what happened to this little girl, It's sad that children in her school are making fun of her just because she has a scar on her face, and that something she has to live for the rest of her life just because a family dog attacked her....Some children can be real cruel but its the parents job to teach the children never judge others from the outside, because the inside of each child counts the most...
I'll say a prayer for that sweet little girl....Once again I'm sorry

After all, you didn't say that you were there to see it happen neither did you mention the parents being there to witness. Most dog attacks involving young children occurs when the child is left alone in a room with a dog according to several statistics. Children find it easy to abuse animals and get away with it most of the times. It can cause the pets to become defensive and view them as a threat. Remember, dogs don't see children the way we do. Especially when they aren't that much bigger in comparison to them. Don't ever leave a child alone in a room with a dog. I'm not saying your nephew is evil. It's very common of children to cause trouble with the dogs and cats. It's pretty much normal and should be discouraged as much as possible. Quote:
It doesn't just "happen" in most cases. There's always a reason for a dog to attack. Period. Even though it is rarely justified, but that doesn't excuse the pet owners for neglecting on keeping their children safe and educated on these matters. A pet is a big responsibility, don't expect a dog to understand everything like a human being would. Dog bites are often due to abuse and irresponsibility. Many people shouldn't have a dog in their house because they don't know how to take care of one. Even if the pet owner is the most friendly person in the world, but it doesn't mean s/he is a suitable pet owner. Sorry, but that's just how I see it. Despite what people think, the pet owners are responsible for their pets' actions, no matter what. That's how it goes. In a way, it's better this way. If no pet owner was to take responsibility, then we'll be overrun with wild dogs in the cities. Imagine having a bunch of vicious dogs chasing you just because the pet owners aren't liable for them at all and there's nothing you can do about it except having them put to sleep, which won't stop the irresponsible pet owners from adopting more dogs. Now, that's a scary thought. Not trying to anger anybody here, but I am a strong believer in having the pet owners take responsibility for the pet's actions in order to keep the society safe. |

Banjo,
Sorry, It wasn't my nephew it was my cousin, Mistake on my part. He was a baby he was in a swing when the dog attack him and pulled him out while he was on the swing, How can a 5 months old baby mistreat a dog? It might be rare for dogs to snap but it can happen, It not always the pet owners fault. I know my aunt Cathy very well, she is a very good person and treats her children and pets the same way, Before making judgment calls on my aunt or any pet owners know them personally before making comments. I have watched animals that gone bad on TV, and for the same results as owners saying they have no idea why their pet went out of control. You can't always blame the owners. Have to look at both sides to get the fact not one side only. You had your say, and I had mine.

I've been bitten many times by many dogs. My first experience was with my grandparent's dogs. It was my fault. I was petting him too hard and it was while he was eating. So, he got mad and bit me. Another time, my dog was scared to go outside. Yet, he had to go to the bathroom. So, I tried to force the dog outside and he bit me on my arm. Yep, my fault again. Another time, I scared a dog badly and it got scared. So, it bit me. Of course, it was all my fault. Heh!

How would we know if the dog has mental problem? Psychologist can't communicate with the animal. Weird That would be a nice if, they do sufficient study more on animal's mental health... What are the difference between the canines and felines ? We can choice a right dog for safety at home with the young children. If we have sufficient evidence that dog is match for the family or not.Having to deal with getting attacked, the doctors and stitches, and then having the dog put to sleep. Akita's are tough dogs. We'll never know why the dog bit her. We forget that dogs are animals. Sometimes they do things we don't expect.

Deafmonkey, do you have pepperspray with teargas? If not, buy some and use it before getting bit again. That dog will not bite you and, if owner sees it, they will get mad, but heck, you just saved yourself from a dog bite. Next time you get bit and the owner tries to walk away, call the police and report it.

I appreciate your kind thoughts and your prayers for her. She IS getting better, but not as quickly as we would like. She's just a child and doesn't understand why the dog she loved would hurt her.
They didn't tell her that the dog was put to sleep. They told her she went "away". Better she doesn't know. She feels bad enough. Anyway, thanks for your concern it was very sweet of you and so typical of the caring person that you are.

I'm sorry about those five dogs bit you. We have to take extra precaution with all dogs everyday! All dogs have sharp teeth and they can bite!
There are many ways to avoid getting bite by a dog. Never run away and turn your back to the dog that tried to charge you. Also, always keep your face out of the dog's face! Never dare to let them get closer to your face except that dog is yours! |
