Good Question.... I am currently in Hearing Dog school training my with my German Shepard. You will have to earn the certificate. You can see Vocotional Rehablition (VR) about funding for hearing guide school to get the orange vest and hearing guide certification. That is a nice Rottweiler there
God Bless and Merry Christmas !!!!!

I have a hearing dog. This is what you do: I'm introducing myself to you with my hearing dog, Snickers. "Hi, Nikki. I'm Pete and this is my Hearing Dog, Snickers. She is my hearing dog and is protected and is required access as per The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. If you so choose to prevent me from entering your business (or have an apartment), I will call the police, who then, in turn, will notify you that you have no choice but to admit me. If you don't, I will sue you for violations as such under The Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. There are also stiff penalties for violations, as well, as this is a Federal law AND it supercedes any and all state laws as per to service animals." There are programs that train dogs and other animals to be service animals, HOWEVER, to be "certified," there is no such thing. It is programs that train animals that want this "certification" process due to financial gains, not for the convenience of people who need service animals. Having a cape on the animal (blaze orange for Hearing) is NOT REQUIRED as per the ADA. Go to this website for all service animal inquiries: http://www.usdoj.gov/crt/ada/animal.htm In addition, Nikki, there is only one website that is outstanding that deals with service animals and they do all kinds of advocacy work. http://sdog.danawheels.net/
