It's theoretically possible to train a dog to go to the bathroom in a litterbox, but why would you? It's also not good for the dog to let him/her mess in the house. We have two dogs, and they've been trained for years. Occasionally though, one of my dogs will have an accident in the house. However, it's usually my fault when that happens. I've gotten too busy to pay attention to him or something. When that happens, I'm the who pays the price for my neglect.

It's so much easier to just let the dog out, and let him do his business outside. If your dog is a puppy, he can be trained to do his business where he is supposed to, but it's UP TO YOU to do it. This sounds to me like a simple case of a lazy owner, and that's too bad.

I actually feel sorry for the dog. Whenever, my dogs have done something they weren't supposed to, they've always felt ashamed. There's nothing worse than a dog who feels bad when the fault lies on the part of the owner.

Just take the dog outside, MsP. You can at least do that much.

Geez.

Ewwww whats wrong with u Miss P?? do u have any dogs or cats?? I have had my cats in whole my life and I have trained my cats in cat litter but not dogs arghhh!!! geez take dog outside to do business to finish up. I used to have dogs when I was young and my parents let them outside to do their own business also I knew that the dogs sometimes did hump other dogs.

well I got sensitive skins... such as ecsema...
and my skins would rather be with dogs and cats that
have clean fur and never go outside.

But when dogs and cats go outside, they rolled in the grass....
and do all of that...

And come to me, and I be itching cause I don't know
what they were picking up out there outside....

Whatever they got while they were outside, I get skin rash.

I wish I can have a dog.

So, if you don't have a dog, what is the point of your thread?

then i suggest dont get a dog or cat for yourself if you think it too much troubles. IF you want one so bad then you have to do lot of jobs it take lot of responsiblies DO YOU THINK you have responsibilies to do that? if so here what you need to do is keep take pet to vet for check ups and treatments for fleas. If you want send dog outside after dog go outside take dog in and take bath immediately (wear gloves and long sleeve t shirt or sweater (i prefer t shirt because it can get wet easy) before you pick up dog and take bath) That way it wont effect your skins.

NOTE: I think cat poop smell much worse
than dog poop...

what does eczema has to do with it? My oldest son has ecezma. We just recently lost our beloved lab at 7 months, my son was fine and his skin did not react to the dog.

My son will react more to outdoor cat than indoor for some reasons that outdoor cats carry more germs. I am allergic to outdoor cats but I am fine with indoor cats...I am also fine with indoor/outdoor dogs.

I was told by allergist drs that Outdoor cats are prone to carry more diseases...because they wander into places unknown to us.

I think you should re-think your plan to get an animal. If you're not willing to care for it properly, you shouldn't be getting one. Animals are a lot of work, and they deserve more than an owner who is looking to take the easy way out when caring for him/her.

Um, good luck. I guarantee it will be full of smell, and you better think about buying yourself a gas mask.

If you want a pet then I suggested you to have indoor cat. Meaning keep the cat inside all the times. Clean the litter box every other day. Feed the cat with food and water every day. Give the flea and tick treatment into his or her fur depending on the brand that you buy.

Good Luck!!

My toy poodle uses wee wee pads. I have a special place for her to do her duties. It is very convenient when I am gone all day and she would'nt have to try to hold it until I get home. I found it very easy with female dogs, but I can't say much for the male dogs.

OMFG!!!! Im laughing and crying so hard as i read this. I wonder miss P has a brain? Or she might be a talented commedian. Why dont you contact david letterman on your dog doing a stupid pet trick by going to a litterbox and censor the poop comming out the dogs ass.And see if the dog covers the poop up like a cat does.

I tried to suggest she put a dog door in the door, you can get then so humans can't get in like security safe, but she didn't. I also suggested that electric litter box LitterMaid, but she didn't look at it.

I have heard of both dogs and cats using the toilet, but that grosses me out. I don't want to sit on a toilet a dog or cat used.

That's why I still don't have a pet. Not only because of my schedule, but because I don't know where I would put a litter box in an apartment and not have it stinky-poo all the time like all my friends and family that have a cat. Dogs should go outside it is in their nature, and besides it is good for humans!

Gross story about the dog eating the poop. They also roll around in it. I've seen a cat eat its own vomit. Gross, gross, gross.

I think I overused the word "gross" in this posting.
Yea you sure did over used the word "gross". What about this my dog eat my cat's poop. How gross is that??? I had to train her not to go in the litterbox lol

HAHA, I am so glad I made you laugh.
That what my professors at Gallaudet told me
to stop making them laugh... and be serious.

HAHAHA.

I was talking about pads that are placed on the floor, and they come in different sizes. I use a 24" X 24" for my toy poodle in our master bathroom. I change them often, so I can avoid the odor. I also keep Febreze handy. I like the pads better than newspapers, so I do not have to worry about the black ink . I came up with this because I do not have a yard for her. Also there is no point in having a doggie door either.
