I finally got a chance to watch the second episode of this show last night. I didn't record the first one but I really liked the second one. As a hearing person who is not familiar with the deaf community I have a few thoughts. One, I feel like the deaf issues portrayed were interesting to a hearing audience, like Daphne's trouble reading lips and her frustration with her birth parents not "getting" that she couldn't just magically know what they were saying if they weren't looking at her so they could read their lips. And the whole motorcycle thing as well. And the way that guy's friends were mocking her. I could sense the hurt that she felt during these kinds of situations.
So, I hope I am right in thinking this is a great introduction to deaf/HoH awareness for those who are hearing and are not familiar with deaf issues. It's important this kind of thing is in popular media because it spurs on greater interest in deaf/HoH issues to those who have never been introduced into this. It also helps that Emmett is super cute

I saw the show last night and I am shaking my head at the inanity of it. First of all, whose fault was it when she let the fries overcook in that class? Not hearing the timer is no excuse, since a good cook has more sense than to rely on one. And how in the world can a fryer start smoking and filling the room with it? Makes no sense. I didn't want to watch the show but my friends did.

just saw this weeks on hulu, I love that the mom is learning ASL almost at the same time as the actress that plays her.

BTW, I just finished watching the latest episode and I really liked it. Finally some interesting plot leads happening with Toby's gambling problem, Bay's search for her father, and the developing friendship/romance between Bay and Emmet. Lots of cross-communication issues being explored in this one. Good stuff.

For the story to work she had to feel as much like an outsider as possible. They had to make the class go bad for her, and it had to be because she's deaf (aka what makes her different) other wise they couldn't write the ending were she goes back.

SPOILER ALERT!!! DO NOT READ IF YOU HAVE NOT SEEN THE SHOW!!!!!!!!!!!
Daphne got the guitar case open. Interestingly the code for the lock was: BAY. (or the numbers). Inside she found photos of Bay. Bay's biological mother has known for years about the switch.... As for Emmett. Love and feelings don't always follow logic. That actor is SO cute. If I were 30 years younger - LOL! Last edited by Hollykins1; 07-18-2011 at 11:17 PM. Reason: should have posted spoiler alert... |

Grrrrrr. Put a spoiler alert on if you're going to reveal very specific, key information like that (Regina knowing about the switch...)
Most of us won't be able to watch until tomorrow with Hulu, so posting a spoiler only an hour after the show ended is kinda unfair. Please reply in PM next time for something like that.

Yes, there are two more episodes until the season finale. I'm very sad about this. But I will definitely purchase the season on DVD if there will be one.
I love Emmett. I'm not sure if I like him and Bay. I've been an Emmett and Daphne shipper from the beginning, but I've also wanted more TV shows with a hearing and not-so-hearing person, so... well. Here we are, haha. I used to really dislike Bay, mainly because I couldn't stand Vanessa's acting in this even though I liked her in Gilmore Girls, but I'm liking her more now! I also want Emmett all to myself. I'm only 20. He's 18 IRL. It'll be okay! Oh, other things with a deaf character that I like: Orange Days (Japanese TV show) and Hear Me (Taiwanese movie). Now, uh, the actresses IRL are completely hearing so you're not gonna get the WHOO HOO ACTUAL DEAF PEOPLE IN A DEAF ROLE, but... I love Kou and Ivy Chen so much that... well. I mean, Orange Days became one of my favourite shows, haha. Both are on mysoju.com. |

Regina finally got the truth out even though she knew it would ruin everything, Bay and Daphne have every right to be mad with her for not telling the truth in the beginning but she found all this out when both of them were 3 yrs old its wouldn't been the same for either one of them if they had been with their biological parents after regina got the private investigator. I can't wait to see next's weeks episode!
