I think that is a really really high estimate. Our total bill, for surgery and all, was less than $50,000.

Interesting theory that is, my friend in Aus, recently got his CI and it only cost around 15K (AUD)

What does it have to be related to the 'unemployment?' or are you referring to him in the TV show that he would be better off sacked?

Advanced Bionics's CI's have an indicator light. When it is connected and communication with the internal device, it blink green in response to sound. When it is not functioning properly (generally when it is off the head) it blink red. When the battery is low it is solid orange.

Cochlear also has an option like that, but I am not familiar with it.

Faire Jour is right.

Cochlear does them but we have choice to have them turned off. Mine is off except when it's faulty/broken it blinks red thats all.

as to the cost of the implant and surgery and all that, it varies by surgeons and hospitals where the surgery is done. For me, to have the implant done through Rocky Mountain Cochlear Implant Center, it'll cost $100,000 or so. Not all centers and bills are going to be the exact same. I have a friend who went through Rocky Mountain for her implant and she said it was about $100,000 for her (her insurance covered most of the costs though).

I'm saying, instead being fiction but the reality, Dr. Greg House will have no job during his behavior. Yet, some people cannot piss off because he save patient's life.

This is true. I cannot recall how many stupid stunts he pulled in the name of medicine. That, and he's hooked on Vicodin. And he's a disrespectful tool. I mean, in real life how many women bosses would allow their employees to make snide comments about their body? Cuddy's boobs seem to be a favorite topic of his.

Yeah, and Chase did both the surgery and the activation. He's quite a talented doctor, I'll say.

This is why people shouldn't be taking these shows so seriously. It's entertainment, nothing more.

This is undeniable, and rather blunt about House as we all know. What I'm trying to say is, if he were to see the deaf alone socializing in ASL somewhere he'd (the character, Greg House) probably want to put CI's in all of them, without bothering for their culture. He has respect for "some other forms of non-social culture" out there, I think, observing past episodes.

I think the deaf ought to stop pointing out differences and odd loops & ends in this particular episode. Or they ought to do the same for the rest of the four seasons and find out all the problems in them.

Did you guys know that many of those people in past episodes were supposed to die as a result of faulty medical logic? Or the errors shown in them too.

- In Season 4, Amber was supposed to die much earlier in her condition. It's not real life proof.
- In a particular Season 3 episode, about the Karate girl in college. She had a gastrointestinal bleed yet House+his team never did a colonoscopy.
- First episode, Season 1 - Wilson suggested radiation therapy for Rebecca (the teacher girl). In real life, a oncologist is supposed to know where the cancer is before even suggesting to go through one.
- Some episode I forgot season # - A tattooed patient going through an MRI would get burned. In real life, this would be only have a chance at occurring if the tattoo used some kind of metallic substance in the ink.

There are many errors on House if you bothered to become a critic on how accurate it is.

Just because it's on TV, doesn't mean it is exactly real!

That episode is few boring one so far for me. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE that show so much. But, come on, the plot of that episode is bit too weak. I'm sorry if you people got offended by that episode. However, few shows did the same thing. Like my grandmother said, "TV's evil."
I never take it really serious about it.

Actually, he prefers her ass.

And yes, he has his flaws and normally, I like the show because it's a study of House and his nasty habits. I didn't like the implant episode because it reeked of the pro-cochlear implant propaganda.

I missed that part.

What House did was stupid though. If he did that to me, I'd probably knock his lights out so hard, vicodin would be useless in curing that pain.

Seriously, why do people feel the need to alter who they are? I'd get a CI but I don't want an ugly scar and I don't want something sticking out of my head. If they ever improve that technology to where it doesn't already impede someone's looks, I might consider.

I find this so amusing. Some people are saying that the show made the CI look bad and evil causing negativity towards the CI. Some people are saying that the show made the CI look "wonderful" thus the show was all CI propaganda.

Talk about perfect example of different interpretations of the same exact thing.

That's not a bad thing.

I didn't see the end of the episode because House giving the implant pissed me off enough to make me turn it off.

Regardless, it's nothing to get pissed off about. Just a TV show but if it happened in real life, you can bet your ass that the doctor would be fired and sued for millions of dollars.
