Analog TVs will cut off by 2009.

Analog TV Cutoff Date Finalized
Congress has set Wednesday, February, 17th, 2009 as the official date when all analog over-the-air television transmissions are to stop. For those consumers that still own and operate an analog television for receiving over-the-air broadcasts at that time, they will need to purchase a digital-to-analog converter box. In households where more than one analog television may be use, a separate converter box would be required for each set to receive digital signals. There are provisions for a "subsidy" to defray the cost of these boxes, which is available to all consumers, regardless of income. However, those consumers that receive all of their television programming via cable or satellite will not be affected, as converter boxes are already required to receive most cable and all satellite programming. For more details on this important story, check out the report from Herald Today/Associated Press<.

Wow, you are misunderstood.

Your HDTV don't support ATSC since it's analog only (NTSC).
Philips - 23" Widescreen HD-Ready Flat-Panel LCD TV with PC Input - 23PF5320/28

There's some SDTV that support ATSC, little more costly.
Insignia™ - 32" Standard-Definition Digital TV - NS-RTV32

There's example for HDTV that support ATSC since Best Buy don't have enough information.
Sharp LC-26DV20U 26" 1366x768 720p Native 8ms 800:1 Contrast Ratio HDMI ATSC LCD HDTV wDVD at TigerDirect.com

NTSC is analog and ATSC is digital, after NTSC is shut down then you have going to buy new TV again or buy set box to watch shows via ATSC.

Most HDTV that support ATSC will cost around more than $600 for tigerdirect or newegg and more than $700 at Best Buy, Circuit City and other store.

I need to let you know that people will care if they are using UHF or VHF then would totally ripped off after NTSC is shut down since they have to buy set box or new TV that support ATSC.

If you using cable or dish on tv that support NTSC only will NOT AFFECTED because you already have set box for dish or cable (digital cable).

Don't you all know that this cut-off date has been set the third time! The first cut-off date was when? 2 years ago! Then the second one was suppose this year, but again postponed... I wouldn't lose sleep over this and my hunch think it is going to postpone ANYWAY!

It will be expensive if you buy at store, such as Best Buy and Circuit City.

Just let you know that 1080p isn't different as 1080i if you own HDTV is around 37" or under.

Oh well, they are postponed due issue with tech since most tv don't support ATSC then postponed and all TV are require to have ASTC built-in after July 2007.

my girlfriend and i shopped in Best Buy and watched rich details HDTV priced over 5,000 dollars. Another area near real HDTV is cheap and fake HDTV at low price like I see at Walmart. We enjoyed watching expensive HDTV with amazing details. I will be careful not buying wrong HDTV and am glad that you know everything. I learned much from your feedback knowledges.

Sure, Your welcome.

Do you think that HDTV at Wal-Mart is fake? It's not true because they do sell Philips, Samsung, Sony and RCA, that which all of brand are good as at Best Buy and Circuit City but avoid to buy Sanyo, ilo and few brand that's not known so well.

I refuse to buy Sanyo and ilo since they are exclusive at Wal-Mart, also Magnavox isn't good brand but better than Sanyo and ilo.

Starrygaze, what do you mean by "fake" HDTV? I never heard of anyone saying things like that. Anything at 720p or above is true HD, of course the widescreen feature. The cheaper HDTVs generally have lower contrast ratios and fewer features, that's all.

Some of brands does not meet 1080p or 1080i. Like I saw HDTV are not actually 1080p because they are below the resolution pixels. Like i saw HDTV at Wal-mart was about 1300x792 that does not up to real HDTV standard 1080.

You meant 1360x768? It means the HDTV supports PC resolution. You can plug it to a PC monitor, it does not mean it isn't true HDTV. If it says that it supports 1360x768 resolution, it means that basically the HDTV supports 720p minimum. The specs don't always tell you at the store, you have to research it in detail. 1080i doesn't mean it is isn't true 1920x1080. It shows 540 lines at a time so that's why it doesn't support full 1920x1080 like in 1080p HDTV sets. Most HDTVs will say it's a 1080p display. If it doesn't say it's a 1080p display, it's more likely it will say 1360x768 to support PC resolution besides it does 720p minimum.

Sequioas is correct.

1080i and 1080p aren't different until you get more than 37" HDTV.

I have HD monitor, that maximum resolution is 1440 x 900, also only support up to 720p for video gaming and movies in HD. If you want HD monitoe that support up to 1080p then check out...
Gateway - 24" Widescreen High-Definition Flat-Panel LCD Monitor - FPD2485W

There's no tv tuner but you need hook up on Mac to support tv tuner.

Just question...

What happen with Simpsons, South Park and Family Guy after when NTSC is shut down? I don't know if Family Guy and South Park are support ATSC, also Simspons is support NTSC only. I had found out that would be last season of shows in 2007-2008 for Simspons before NTSC is start shut down.

South Park isn't part of them because of not on broadcast and South Park is only offers via cable, IPTV or satellite tv.

I had found that analog will shut down for broadcast channels but cable and others are unaffected, also that's right about The Simspons support both of NTSC and ATSC, same goes to rest of shows that come via over the air.

I made mistake about 2007-2008 of The Simspons is final season and they will continue to run this shows in long years after NTSC goes shut down and all newer shows will format in ASTC only, I hope that would support widescreen and HD on near future season.

They will shut down the analog signal via antenna on Feb 17th 2009 (next year). also Analog cable will remain in service til between Feb 17 2010 or 2012 or until the cable decide to cease (no longer to carry) analog channels and they will upgrade all-digital cable signal.. analog TV owner will get a converter box to Digital to get convert to Analog signal to their TV set. Right now, the cable company have serves analog and digital signal over the cable
I hope that the widescreen format will appears for new season . I would like to see pure HDTV shows. DBS Satellite TV (DirecTV or DishNet) will stay as long you use an analog tv set.... the DBS satellite converter box has fully digital signals but it already convert to analog TV signal to hook up TV sets.

new lately television with ATSC usually come with widescreen (16:9) support and digital CC. If you see regular bore CC and no 16:9 support, that's NTSC.
