I agree. Anime is a style of art.

Even I don't refer to them as cartoons... unless I have to "downgrade" my definition to a person of "inferior" understanding.

For instance, anime used to be called "japanimation" years ago. That was the only word I could get my dad to understand when I was trying to describe anime. Even today, my dad forgets his place and refers to it as "japanimation". "So, you ready for this japanimation convention you're going to this weekend?"

There are some people who have nothing to do with other cultures that they can't even comprehend what's going out there. When I'm trying to explain anime to them, the only thing they can understand is "japanese-style cartoons". After I explain that, I leave the subject alone and never mention it again with those for they have not earned their "place" in anime culture!

I'm currently reading the original Akira manga. It's a lot longer than the anime. I think the anime covers only manga volume 1 and volume 2.

I've also read Death Note and Uzumaki. The Death Note manga lasted 12 or 13 books. That way, I know it actually ends. The same goes for Uzumaki. There isn't an anime for Uzumaki yet. They did a live action version and it sucked! If they did an anime series of it, I would probably enjoy it better.

I have started reading a few other mangas, but got bored with them quickly after a few books... Naruto, Eyeshield 21, etc. They way some of those mangas are written, they put in so much dialogue that you could read 10 to 20 pages of panels that covers the reality of 1 to 2 minutes.
With the statement of yours highlighted in red, the manga is always longer than the anime. It is because the company that creates the anime tends to do at most two chapters of the manga at a time and they don't want to catch up too quickly to the manga because then it'll force them to do fillers. Most of the time fillers are lame. Haha.

Yes, there can be a lot of dialogue in one chapter, but that serves a purpose. It is for the author to give us more of an insight into the characters. In other words, character development and thickening the plot!

There is one complete manga that ended perfectly when it should have and there is an anime based on it as well that I recommend you in taking a look at. The name of the manga is...Full Metal Alchemist.

respectyoda and JoeyDeafNinja...

Either of you ever attend an anime convention? No, it's not all about anime... but also about manga.

There's an anime convention that takes place in Dallas, TX once a year... usually the weekend after Memorial Day. It's called "A-Kon"... the longest running anime convention (not the largest). It used to be called "Project A-Kon" (supposedly after Project A-Ko). This year had 21,000 attendees. Due to the expansion, they're changing location next year... still in Dallas, TX. If you're in the area or living nearby, go there!

Yeah. Some anime do follow mangas pretty well, while others don't follow it much. Naruto had too many fillers. You could usually tell which episodes were fillers if the episode was a story on its own. Episodes that were more than one part to cover a story were the ones that usually covered the manga.

I've never read Fullmetal Alchemist manga, but I have seen both series on anime. I heard the second series covered the manga better.

With the statement of yours highlighted in red, it can be boring after reading a few chapters, but you must understand it takes time for the characters and plot to be developed. So hence, you must have patience and keep on reading. It is just like with movies and books. You have to be patient and watch the characters be developed and the plot revealed over time in order to understand how the characters' personality and motives affect the plot.

Right now, the Naruto manga is epic!

Patience, patience, and patience!!!

I am aware there is an anime convention that takes place in Dallas, TX once a year and I am only 3 hours from there. I don't have the time or money to attend such a convention. I am fine being home and reading manga or watching anime on my computer.

Yes, some anime do follow its manga pretty well. The anime can affect the fan base of the manga! Naruto had too many fillers cuz the anime often caught up too quickly to the manga. But thankfully, with the last filler, the anime has fallen way behind the manga!

As for FMA, the second anime series definitely covered the manga much much much better! So go watch it!

Oh, by the way, there's another awesome manga that you should check out: Bleach!

I know... I know... I know.

I do have the patience, just not at this moment... considering my current hectic lifestyle I'm going through right now.

When things get settled down, I'll get back to reading LONG manga.

Hahaha...

Tickets usually go on sale in September (maybe late August). When that happens, weekend passes are $35 or so. They go up every month by a few bucks. By the time it's April, it's $45 to $50... then possibly $75 at the door.

My wife isn't crazy for anime or manga, but she enjoys them with me from time to time. She goes to A-Kon for the culture experience as well as the cosplay. For her, it's like a game. "Oh, wait... that guy's... umm... oh, he's from 'Death Note'? Awesome!"

Just this morning, she saw a character on Rozen Maiden and said... "Hey
! I remember someone dressed like that at A-Kon!!! Now, I recognize that character!!!"

The Bleach anime has stopped for now and I am not sure if it will ever be taken up again.

As for the manga, it is a must for you to read it!

Nope, they did not. What you saw/read was merely a rumor. Don't believe everything you hear/see!

After reading this - something kept bugging me because I saw review with two different characters riding on the air float vehicle. So, I looked up at DVDTalk.com (which they have their own Anime forum) and yes, they did made another Last Exile - called Last Exile: Fam, the Silver Wing (TV) - Anime News Network

It was supposed to be prequel (or something) to original Last Exile.

Let me correct you. An episode is a 23 minute video clip of the anime. A chapter is a 20 page drawing of the manga.

So if you are referring to the manga, there are 677 chapters. For the anime, there are 559 episodes.

I suggest you to read the manga first because you can most certainly read about 3 or 4 chapters a day and you'll catch up in no time!

You can always catch up and watch new espiodes on Watch Bleach Episodes English Subbed & Dubbed Movies Online

As of right now, Bleach anime has ended but manga still releasing chapters on mangastream.com or mangahere.com. I am sure anime will be come back as soon as manga is coming to the end. Last week was on break so new chapter should be come out this wed, hopeful. I want to talk about what happening with bleach but I don't want to spoil here. I will make new thread and I even will warning about spoilers.

I like to watch anime content on Watch Free Anime | Anime Shows, Episodes in English Subbed & Dubbed

As for Bleach, the anime, indeed, has ended, but the manga is still ongoing.

Manga Here - Read English Manga Free Online. Manga is Here! is the one of the best websites to read the top ranked mangas. Manga Stream - Read free manga online! tends to post newest chapters then later takem them down. Www.mangareader.net is another good website to use.

It would be nice if Alex could add a spoiler tag like many other forums use.

Yeah. That sometimes happens when the manga is too long or still ongoing.

There is some speculation that the anime may continue when the manga ends.

They did that with InuYasha and Hunter X Hunter. In fact, they decided to reboot Hunter X Hunter with the intention of following the manga more closely. We'll see how that goes.

Yeah, some manga are so long that when they do anime series... those are long too.

Long anime series that I know of are... InuYasha, Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Detective Conan, Dragon Ball, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh!...

I looked them up.. InuYasha (167 episodes), Bleach (366 episodes), Naruto (480+, still ongoing), One Piece (550+, still ongoing), Detective Conan (660+, still ongoing), Dragon Ball (440+, still ongoing), Pokemon (650+, still ongoing), Yu-Gi-Oh! (550+ episodes)...

There's even an anime series called Ninja Boy and it's 1,600+ episodes... and still ongoing!

I went to one almost ten years ago dressed as Chi from Chobits. I was thinking I would love to cosplay again. It was so fun! I went to Comic Con here in Ottawa and I took a lot of photos of other costumes. I think dressing up is a whole other art. Some of the costumes were amazing.
