I guess I wasn't clear about the joke thing. My husband and his deaf friend at work would converse in ASL, sometimes joking about others, so no one knew what they were saying.
Just to be honest, signing as a joke out in public to some (not me) is an insult. Some deaf have a chip on their shoulder big time when it comes to hearies, epically the ones using SEE and not ASL. As for me I thing it is great that anyone hearing takes an interest in any sign. Your children will learn it fast. Best way is not to speak around the house, hearies can revert back so easy. It is different when it is your only language. Please accept no insult here was not intended. There is some jealousy, what I would do to hear 1 bird once.
