Anyone here use linux instead of windows?

I'm a fairly extensive Linux user... both at home and at work. Currently these days I use Ubuntu for all of my home devices, CentOS and Arch Linux at work.

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Huh. I was able to regain full control of the Windows 10 OS... that surprised me. It's just Windows 10 Home. Unfortunately, I still haven't been able to bypass the BIOS password.

    Zvrs acquires purple

I'm not sure what to feel about this. My first thought is "Damn, there goes another competitor..." because it means one less provider for the D/deaf. Just look at the ISP industry. That industry is a monopoly. ZVRS acquiring Purple is a sign that there will be more and more monopolies as time...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean here? To put Ubuntu on the hard drive, you'll need to install Ubuntu onto a spare hard drive on another computer and then the hard drive into the B40-30. Presto, you now have control of the OS. Also, apparently if your hardware warranty from Lenovo expires...

School threatening to take my interpreters away

Are you in the United States? If you are, what they did to you is against the law. Cite the American Disability Act and insist they stop... or Else. If they fail to stop, follow up with a lawsuit. Speak to a lawyer! The fact that you did well without the interpreter in the meeting does not...

    Deaf Email Server

Technically, I run one. (or rather, quite a few, given they're customer servers...)

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Correction, it is not built-in. It is a mini-PCI-e card that you can remove to switch to some other wifi card.

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

So... I installed Ubuntu to a spare hard drive and threw that into the B40-30. Booted right up, touch-screen worked and pretty much everything worked out of the box... I might even try installing the ZVRS app back onto it and leave it at that. Or I might not. Awesome, I now have control of the...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

... Discovered that there's no way to change how long it takes before the display goes to sleep but remains on. No way to change how much power it uses at any given time. Why lock this out? This is stupid.

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Because if a part such as the hard drive fails or the RAM fails, I'd like to replace those parts without needing to contact ZVRS. I already have spare parts available in the event the Z5 Max fails for me. It was a giant pain in the ass to make a backup image of the hard drive in its entirety...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

So far, I've yet to figure out how to bypass the BIOS lock on it. Removing the hard drive and stripping the admin account of the password would be very easy to do... however, that leaves me with no way to get at the BIOS unless I open the thing up. Hmm. I'm still working through my options but...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Hmm. Just got the B40. I also have the service manual for it. No bios password resets in the service manual, however. I can probably forcibly reset the admin password. Unfortunately... there's not much to be said about the BIOS. If I reset the admin password, I won't know what the password was...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Sure it does, silly! Getting BIOS-level access means you can change what the computer does. Such as booting to a flash drive with Linux or some other tools, for example. GPEdit? That's easy to work around. If I have the device in my physical possession, it will be OWNED. I will make it mine...

    Feedback on Z5 Max?

Yep, you'll hear about how I did it regarding the Z5 Max. I'm fairly sure there's a way to reset the BIOS password... but if it's the same as the administrator account password, then I won't need the BIOS password. I'll just pull the password from the administrator account and then reset the...

    Linux Users with VRS applications

I have now been accepted as the WineHQ Application Maintainer for the Z5 Desktop. The Z5 Desktop app can be found here. I will provide how-tos once I can get the Z5 Desktop working properly here for other Linux users.
