Thank you for the website. Sounds like a good topic, I thought I saw a forum topic here that is on a similar topic. Mine is the need for Interpreters in Tourism.

Yes, we have both classes together. My name is Jennifer, I did the first presentation in Deaf Studies, for the chapter presentation. I wish that had gone better. *laugh* but I guess being first we were kinda the guinine pig for everyone else to learn from.

Hi there...Yes, I am a teacher of the deaf. ASL is a language while SEE is not so it is critical that the children develop language from a language first before learning how to read and write. Since ASL is fully accessible to deaf children via the eyes, ASL is strongly recommended to be exposed for the children to develop language on par with their hearing counterparts. The "sandwich" method is a great way to teach beginning reading by fingerspelling the object, then signing the sign for that object and then go back to fingerspelling. Can start out with fingerspelling the printed words ..that is what I am doing with my hearing 2 year old and he is starting to use fingerspelling whenever he sees words in print. That's for the 3 to 5 year old range. Hope that helps! Good luck!
