Deaf people view themselves as a bilingual cultural group who share unique traits who often shun themselves from the group who they feel doesnt accept them for who they are. They feel as if they are being persecuted by the hearing. Its almost like a white man trying to act black. Its so hard to fit in if your so different.
I think you should definitely get the CI. It will be maybe the most life changing experience of your life. I know it was for me. I am only 17 but i know that this implant has changed my life forever. I am actually getting my left ear done in the coming summer because of how helpful the CI has been to me.
Especially you as a late-deafened person, the CI will probably not "sound" good to you. I know for me, everything sounded wrong...it is a computer so you will need to make adjustments but it is an amazing thing to have and I think you should definitely keep it in your options.
If you dont mind me asking, how fast has your hearing been going down?
hi! I'm new to this. I started going deaf about a year ago and am thinking about getting a cochlear implant. I read your post that you got one. Can you give me any advice or let me know what you think?
