So where does a cute deaf guy meet a cute deaf girl? I'm going crazy here in Baltimore, only an hour away from the strongest Deaf culture in America, and yet I haven't found people here in Baltimore. I was mainstreamed and I do well in the hearing world but I'd like to meet more people like me. I'm conversational in sign but not fluent yet, and it's really important to me to become fluent.
And hey, I'd just be happy to meet any Deaf people, but I've only dated hearing girls in the past. I moved out here from Portland, OR. three months ago-- it's great out there, and I was involved in the Deaf community, but it's not that big there.

And try to find out where Deaf people normally hang out at or attend some Deaf clubs , church etc...

Welcome to Bawlmore, Hon... (it's a sayin')

Can't beat the DPHH gatherings in the DC area... check out the pix, some cuties there... DeafDC for Washington DC Deaf Professionals - DPHH There's also a fairly large population out in Frederick (but mostly married couples), about 45 miles west of Bawlmore.

<sniffle> I miss DC... sometimes...

now, if anyone has any bright ideas for San Antonio... oh wait.. Austin is just up the road, pretty much like DC/Baltimore.. except it's 70 miles instead of a paltry 30.

Yep..there is DPHH in the Metro DC area every first Fridays of the month except for holiday weekends.

I think there is still a Frederick DPHH on the 2nd Fridays of each month.

Oh yea, there is Baltimore DPHH every 3rd Friday of each month. U can google it.

If u are in your 20s, I know that Gallaudet students tend to go to a bar on Wednesday nights. I am not sure if that is still going on. When I went to Gally 4 years ago, they had that.

The bar scene in DC can change fairly rapidly.. or at least the names of teh bars - they tend to be the same building as the previous owners, lol... when i was at gally 21 and M street was where the action was.

is the 5th Column still standing? I'm sure a lot of new places have popped up around the Basketball arena... I used to work right up the block from it at ATF's HQ 6th and Mass. Ave.

How abt G&G down on the corner of 5th (6th) and Fla? I can still remember sneaking in at a ripe young age of 17 with a fake ID (beer was legal at 18 then, but wine/booze 21 - of course my ID made me 21) - it was sooooo ridiculously easy to mess with your gally id back then... served me well... heh...

now, if anyone has any bright ideas for San Antonio...

If you do, please let me know! I go to San Antonio often. It is a beautiful city! I couldn't believe there are many cute guys! ;D I saw a couple signing to each other at Target the other day and I wanted to say hello but I could not understand their sign language. It is probably because I don't socialize with deaf people. I will go to San Antonio next year, so if you are up to meet me when I am in town, let me know. :)

Sure thing... next time you plan to hit SA, drop me a line and we'll set up something. What brings you to SA on your frequent visits? You live down here in the area? and are you hearing? hoh? deaf? not that it really matters, but...

<edit> oh and sorry to hijack ur thread, dude... :bump:

Thanks for posting, Franz. I'm sure there are lots of people in your same situation -- interested in getting into the social scene but not quite sure where to start. I find myself there often.

Incidentally, I live close to DC, but my nearest and dearest friend has just moved back to Baltimore after being away for far too long... which means I'm spending more time up there these days. If you'd be interested in meeting up and hunting down the local scene together (sometimes it seems like there's safety in numbers, no?), drop me a PM and we can chat.

ScottB66, I will answer your questions via pm.

Franz K, good luck on finding a cute girl!

I couldnt open any of the links but are they deaf sponsored events? I live here in MD and wasnt aware of this info. I am interested in maybe going but cant open the links. :(

I couldn't make the web site work, it automatically blocked out so I had to copy and paste it. Yes, they're from a web site called d e a f c o f f e e with a .com at the end. You can check it out manually.

You're all awesome!

Thanks everybody for the suggestions. I've never had problems meeting people in general, but I grew up mainstreamed and it's always hearing people. I'm ready to meet more of my own people-- I'll be looking into these events, and for those of you who'd like to meet up, that sounds great.

I know how u feel. I grew up mainstreamed but because I went to Gallaudet for my master's so it was a lot easier to meet deaf people that way than not going to Gallaudet. U say u live in the Baltimore area...I live there so maybe we can meet up at a deaf social. I am not single but I have many single friends who are deaf!!! :)

**********

I almost missed it the Deaf Coffee site has 2 sites.

USA: w w w . d e a f c o f f e e and ends with .com
Canada: w w w . d e a f c o f f e e and ends with .ca

Do u go to Baltimore DPHH on every 3rd Fridays of each month? I dont mind going cuz the last time I went to DPHH a week ago, so many people seem from a different class or whatever u call it. I am tired of the DC scence and since I just moved to the Baltimore area...time to change my habits. Any other Baltimore social scences other than DPHH? Thanks!!!

Hi I Am From Indiana About 9 Year Ago My Husband And I Moved Here. I Don't Know Anyone My Husband Didn't Really Introuced Me To Anyone Until After I Was Divorced, So My Friend Showed Me Around. I Met Deaf People At My Church But I Don't Live In Baltimore. Anyway, There Are A Lot Deaf People That Live In That Area, You Would Find One.

For the original question, let's define, "cute" first, lol.
