Before you google this or search it up, has anyone ever heard about this town?

Was talking to another AD'er and this interesting convo struck up. Thought I'd get it started here too!

I did a search and I saw Vamp did a post on it before, but other than that, what's your experience with this ghost town? ;)

You have been there? How the city?

I want to go explore just like CC sinned says. Maybe hitchhike and live there for 3 days or so!

the long exposure to carbon monoxide may kill you...

most of the town has been demolished.

I would set camp outside the city limits in the forest just to be safe from air poisoning, bring some gas masks and avoid the impact areas of the underground mine.

I wonder though, is the city adjacent to the mines or is it separate?

it all depend on the length of the visit and concentration of the carbon monoxide. the off roaders that visit the area are taking a risk. some bring oxygen tanks. without a tank more then a few hours could make you pass out. if a person passes out from the gas death will soon follow

they carbon monoxide is airborn and drifts in the wind. that is why thre is such a huge parimeter that surrounds the area....

so they aren't doing anything to clean it up?

it is impossible. the fire is burning underground with an endless fuel source, coal...

the state has demolished the town buldings and homes. blocked the area off and posted warning signs.

Never heard of that town before. I have been to Columbia County, PA., where Centralia is located. I stayed in the town of Bloomsburg (where the University is located.)

It's interesting.

I really want to visit it, due to the sights they say are there. I guess not many of us have heard of this ghost town.

There's more pics here, i'll copy them from this website:

I have read that some of it is demolished.. and some of it is still there

I've heard of that few years ago. It is sort of like Silent Hill movie in a way.

Looks like a good place to visit/camp out at. I have put it on my must-see list.

Thanks for the website, naisho.
