What are the symptoms and common crappiness feeling that comes with strep throat? It can't be tonsillitis as I no longer have my tonsils or adenoids for that matter. I have had an extremely sore throat for 2 days and very sore to swallow...eating was horrible. If it's still really bad by 2morrow should I go to the clinic or just get over the counter meds and ride it out...i've also been really tired and I have to work thursday friday and saturday.

post away!

If not better in a week go to a doctor. Before one week could still be a virus.

Alicia,

If you have strep throat, you'll need to go to the clinic so they can give you antibiotics. Strep is a bacteria that will only be taken care of by antibiotics. If your sore throat is caused by a virus, then you can probably ride it out and use over the counter stuff. Give me two seconds and I'll google the symptoms for you. Be right back....

Edit: Found some info:

I have a better opinion if you want to figure out if you have strep throat or not. Hopefully, it's just a sore throat or flu, or cold.

Super cheapest method: May be unreliable, but if you really have it, you will see it, and you don't even have to spend over a buck if you have to buy these.
If you really want to see if you have a strep throat cost effectively using home stuff.. all you need is 3 things:

1 - a petri dish (the little clear plastic containers)
2 - a long cotton swab
3 - someone to help swab the back of your mouth with the swab, make sure you get a good decent swab all around so you don't miss it - maybe your have BF do it or something.

You then swab it onto the petri dish, close it up, don't open it for a few days and if you start seeing weird bacterial stuff growing on the bottom, you got the cheapest confirmation that you have strep throat.

There's other OTC stuff you can go check out at your local pharmacy, I think they're like strep throat tester plastic things that cost like $20-30 for a pack of 20+ish. It costs some money, but it can get the job done in like 15-20min.

These are two very cost effective methods that will save you the trip to a clinic if you don't have strep throat. But if you do have it, you should go talk to your doc immediately.

i've been having halls and vicks throat drops like they are candy and it helps for a bit and like 5 min later is horrible again..i can't even yawn without it hurting :( maybe i'll wait for a few days and if it's still bad ill go to the clinic..i cant afford to miss work or my upcoming competition or school because im sick..

i had experience sore throat when i was little girls but my mom took me to dr's office for check-ups and give me medicine.

they now im adult i dont need medicine from dr's office but im using dayquil pills help me feel better.

Oh, been there and done that, just go to the doctor's office. Any medicines at the stores, including HALLS, won't do any help for strep throat.

Go to doctor please. I had it on my son's 6th birthday (that was 2 years ago)...oh my god! It wasn't FUN at all! I was so sick! I can't babysit AT all till I am out of antibiotic then I can go back to babysit!

Had a strep throat last year... it was really horrible- it made me felt worse. Had to miss work for a week...AGREED with Laketahoe and Texan Guy-- Good idea to go to doctor though to get better and keeping you away from getting more worse and miss your errands, school and etc.. Hope you gets well.

i agree with texasguy, laketahoe and tinkerbell
you need to go to doctor

i had it, it was horrible i had to go to doctor. i had pharyngitis few weeks ago but i had to run it out no medication involve here but now it is better.

You gotta go to see a doctor at the emergency services so you will get a prescription of antibiotics. I experienced it and it was nasty. I was given three days off from work and I had to use up all five days worth of antibiotics.

Please go to the doctor. If it is strep, and it goes untreated, you can end up will all kinds of unpleasant consequences.

Plus, strep is very contagious. If you are infected, you are also exposing everyone you come into contact with.

I would definitely go to the doctor if i was you.

She did and was given antibiotics. Having strep throat is just miserable. I haven't had it in a really long time, but when I did it was really nasty. Hopefully, the antibiotics will kick in and she'll feel better in a day or two.

I hope so!

*hug* Alicia.

Thanks guys!!! She told me to make sure i take ALL the anti-biotics which i will cuz i do NOT want to get sick again cuz they said if i don't finish it's likely that it will just come back...so i have competition next weekend so no drinking for me with my team :( ahh well that's ok! :)

Alicia, meds to treat strep throat will not interact with alcohol if thats what you mean. Either way be careful and always drink in moderation.

FYI guys I've seen a kid who ended up having an untreated case of strep throat die right in front of me. He died from septic shock secondary to the prolonged and untreated infection. Not meant to try and scare anybody, but definately to back up Jill's statement that you should always get it cultured by a doctor's office. Reason being is that if its positive they send it over to the lab and test sensitivities in case it has any antibiotic resistances.
