So, the only thing vegetarians need to take is vitamin B12? What about omega-3 acids (specifically DHA/EPA)?
Interesting that it noted that every point increase in BMI (body mass), the loss increases by up to 16%. It's no wonder many Americans are becoming dumber. ;-)

Actually, here's a link to a study which says the complete opposite, with studies collated over 20 years with 8000 test subjects. There is a significant points difference with vegetarians having higher IQ test scores by 5 points. It also suggests that more intelligent children are more likely to become vegetarian later in life.

That's not true. Many vegetarians that I met are really healthy and smart even they are 60 years old.
The information does not show the fact because it is from another country which is not the same in our country. Some countries have some dark sides that they don't tell the story because they are paid to tell the story by U.S.A. food industries for instance. For example, some people have stress in some environment places such as pollution air, poor diet, poor water system, etc. They get used these environments everyday. Many towns contain Fluoride which is NOT good for our health, but why it is necessary for us to drink this Fluoride water which is not part of our food. Right? Why can't we use a toothpaste with Fluoride instead of Fluoride liquid water? ahh, Red wine is better than a beer because of healthy antioxidants. Beer makes your blood thinner which is good, but your brain is out of control if too much drinking (not related to the law, okay). Burp! Excuse me... |

I would think, though, that using only 107 test subjects hardly substantiates anything, while the study in the link I provided used 8000 test subjects. I dunno, though. In the first link there are the statements "Beer does less damage than wine according to a study in Alcohol and Alcoholism" and "Researchers found that the hippocampus-the part of the brain that stores the memories-was 10% smaller in beer drinkers than those that sticks to wine." Huh??? Anyway, an interesting thread. |

Interesting thread but I disagree one point is alochol.. example beers vs wine.
Beer and wine both have cons/pros but it will be okay when you drink them moderately. Beer and Health Beer and Health Beer has vitamin B but high calories. 6 Reasons Why a Little Glass of Wine Each Day May Do You Good 6 Reasons Why a Little Glass of Wine Each Day May Do You Good - Healthy Eating - Health.com http://www.alldeaf.com/general-healt...eat-eater.html |

Sample size does affect external validity, depending upon other demographics and method design. There are cases where a study using 107 participants, is more valid than one using 8,000, depending upon selection, assignment, control of extraneous variables, and sample demographics. That is why I prefer to read the actual research report, rather than someone else's interpretation. And, the alcohol in beer and the alcohol in wine is the same chemical compound. The alcohol itself will produce the same effects, no matter what form it is. Last edited by jillio; 09-16-2008 at 11:29 AM. Reason: corrected typo |

This also sounds totally mislead to me. Did you know vegtables also contain naturally occirring fluoride? Hell, we're exposed to all kinds of crap - whether in the air, water, or food we eat. The only thing we can do is keep our antioxidant consumption levels up.

Yeah, a lot of things going on for years about environment problems.
Wholefoods, Trader's Joe, and other health food stores are my primary shopping. Sometimes, I buy at Stop & Shop. The Stop & Shop is spreading and expanding more stores all over the states. This makes me upset about it. Off subject, two years ago, I had to go to Stop & Shop at 8:30 p.m. I saw a most expensive car I ever saw in the parking a lot. I found out from an employee - the owner of Stop & Shop was his son's car - he is 28 years old. In one week later, I saw it again at night with a different car, of course another expensive one. It is similar one of the Jay Leno's cars. This turns me off because the food prices are increasing. It's obvious that he wants to spend highest luxury life as at the top line of all kind of things he desires. I realized that he is really jerk. My point - does this son really care about the environment? Probably never. It is same thing for other companies. They don't give a shit about us. They want us to buy their foods. Of course, they pay FDA to shut up and enforce the food researchers to follow the exact what food that we buy. Many people believe FDA's comments. Fortunately, some of us are really aware of what is going on our foods. We are trying to find the right path to keep us healthy. We are green collars, not hippies. (Green collar means that we care about health food stores, alternative electric/water energies, and take care of our Earth. We know that it is not perfect yet, but we hopefully are getting there because, in a short, right now many contractors are greedy for more money especially in alternative energies.) |

While beer has vitamin B, it's depleted by alcohol metabolism. That's why alcoholics are deficient in Vitamin B complex.
Moderate drinking is believed to be more protective of all cause mortality than abstainace or heavy drinking.
