That's a heck of a blanket statement to make! One doesn't get diabetes from sugar consumption alone. One's own genetics also comes into play as well. Granted, too much of ANYTHING isn't necessarily good, but saying someone is going to develop diabetes just because they drink alot of soda is reaching a bit.

Did you know that juice also contains alot of sugar? So does lemonade, limeade, and other beverages.

So, be careful what you single out.

I drink less soda and more water. I like strawberry soda its my favorite along with Cherry Coke. I do drink mostly juices, lemonade, ice tea and water.

Yes, but there´re many juices with or without sugars or sweetner addifial. You need to read their label either they add sugar or not... I bought 100% pure juice with no sugar added.

I don´t drink sodas. I only drink cola/coke and eat banana or zweiback when I have diarrhea. It helps to prevent from further diarrhea.

Basically, you are gulping down approximately 225 grams of sugar a day. A single 12oz can of Pepsi would contain around 40 to 45% of recommended daily intake of sugar.

There's no daily value of sugar in USA but we use total carb.

Sprite contains 38g of sugar, it's 13% of total carb on daily value.

Same here, for me, it can be 3-6 per day, just depends on my mood.

I usually drink Sprite at home and Pepsi at work because Pepsi is great for me to work overnight due caffeine, also I hate coffee, except for some parts.

Yes, you are right! I quit drinking pop a few years ago and i feel
better! I only drink bottled water and some unsweetened iced
green tea, thats all.
There is flavored bottled water but they have artificial sweeteners
in them though..If they have Splenda, it might be ok but maybe in
moderation, you think?

Yes, you can get addicted to caffeine and it can be hard to
quit but you just have to have willpower if you really want to
quit drinking pop. I know a person who was pretty addicted to
caffeine cuz he drank several cans of pop everyday for years
but he quit cold turkey and it was hard but he managed by
keeping busy and all. He is ok now and he hates the taste of
any pop now, just like me!! amazing!!

I was like that before, I quit cold turkey but I can't say it was difficult. Instead, I drank water, juice, green tea, etc. It helps to find alternative and healthy solutions when you are trying to quit drinking caffeine-loaded drinks. So instead, you are getting energy from these drinks. You get absolutely nothing from soda drinks, they rob you of all nutritional needs, even these you just absorbed prior to drinking the soda drink.

Just a thought... Remembering all the health benefits that water gives us ...especially those that of us that are older, giving you healthier and younger looking skin, clear skin, helps to curb appetite, will help you think more positively about drinking those 8 glasses of water. You will get used to it, then your body will crave it because its so good for you. This is what I had to do and it worked when I first gave up sodas about 6 months ago. Mind over matter and health first. Now I enjoy water! (just trying to be encouraging to those who want to quit or need help turning to water)

What I am doing is drinking store branded sodas instead of Coca-Cola Zero, I am slowing down with the store branded sodas because I don't like the taste. I am trying very hard not to buy any more Coca-Cola Zeros. Maybe soon I'll get bored with the sodas and move on to something more healthier - such as water and non-sweetened beverages. I do drink some water regularly.

Banjo, Does soda in Canada use cane sugar or high fructose corn syrup (HFCS for short name)?

In US, we use HFCS in most soda, it was switched from sugar cane in 1984.
