I was born with hip dysplasia and I have 2 injured discs at L3-L4 and at L4-L5 in lower back and I have a LOT of pain from that. I take Lortab 10 mg for the pain. I take Soma and Valium for the spasms.

Most painkillers are metabolized throughthe liver. In large doses, or if taken for a long period of time, they can cause some liver damage, expecially theones that combine narcotics with acetomenaphen (Tylenol). But just used on occasion, there is no need for worry.

I think they can. My friend Nicky died because of the steroid drugs she was taking for her Arthritis. That was to control the pain.
I know from having ear infection and also when I had tooth ache the pain was really bad so I took pain killers then but generally I try to avoid them. I used to take a lot of painkillers when I wore HA and was in an abusive relationship. I think that Dr's should look into why people need pain releif rather then just handing pills out. In my case the pain could have gone away by leaving and also by not wearing any HA. |

My spine doctor changed my muscle relaxer from Soma to Robaxin today. Soma was causing me nausea lately, so it had to be changed. Too bad, cause it was working for my spasms. But I cannot stand the urge to puke....I hate puking soooooo much!!! I still take Lortab 10 mg and Valium 10 mg too.

Did you know that top of the line painkillers are made from venom from wild animals? They do some kind of chemistry to invert it into medicine. Those are for chornic pain or something like that.

I took Vonidin (not sure I spelled it right) for pain when I had CI surgery. BOY! I ended up had GERD! GRRRRRRRR! So now I am more careful what I take. I prefer morphine and it don't give me any side effects.
When I have surgery in the near future I'll warn the doctor and give me different medication. Morphine would be nice but very addictive, that's what I heard.

![]() I've heard that if you're addicted to pain killers, You'll be having long term damage to internal organs.

How to protect your liver
Any time I take a pain killer or when I give my mother her pain meds,
I include the herb milk thistle. Milk Thistle will help to protect your liver. As always be sure to tell your doctor if you add anything to your routine. Some doctors do not believe in herbs so it is best to go there prepared with an article on the effects. And doctors are most positive if your information comes from a web site like PubMed or some other journal that doctors trust. I would never take a pain killer with out milk thistle. |

If you have healthy kidney and liver, and don't forget stomach, if you remember NOT TO exceed the daily limit you should be okay. Also, it depends on the painkiller what kind of side effects to look for. Tylenol or acetaminophen is mostly mild and as I've said if you have a healthy liver and do not exceed the doses it should be fine. NSAIDs, like aspirin or ibuprophen are hard on the stomach and may cause bleeding, ulcers even if taken -excuse me- via butthole. codeine and othet narcotic analgetics can cause dependency. So it's best NOT to take over-the counter - painkillers by yourself, is best to go to your dr and chose the best painkiller for you. It's healthier for you body to take ONE or even two stronger, narcotic painkiller than 8 tylenols for the same pain. btw if you have headaches often, maybe you have migraine. then it would best to prevent it from happening. for example by avoiding triggers. that would reduce the number of pills, too. Fuzzy
