Doctors remove spider hiding in woman’s ear canal
A woman who went to China's Changsha Central Hospital complaining of itching in the left side of her head was told by doctors that the source of irritation was a spider that had been living inside her ear canal for five days.
Doctors reportedly used a saline solution to flush out the spider in order to avoid having the spider burrow deeper inside the canal or bite her. The flushing technique was successful and the woman reportedly wept with gratitude after being told the spider was removed. Doctors say they believe the spider entered the woman's home while the home was undergoing renovations, and crawled into her ear while she was sleeping. A report by CNN states that spiders and other bugs are appearing in greater numbers this summer due to warm weather and drought conditions across the U.S. "All insects are cold-blooded, so in extreme heat they develop quicker, which results in more generations popping up now compared to previous summers," Jim Fredericks, an entomologist and wildlife ecology expert with the National Pest Management Association, told the network. Spider lives in woman's ear for 5 days
Oh, what fun this would be!
![]() A woman reportedly checked into a Chinese hospital because of an itchy ear that had bothered her for almost a week, only to find out a spider had taken up residence in her ear canal. The woman, "Mrs. Lee," went to the Changsha Central Hospital of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery for the procedure, according to Chinese media site Rednet.cn. LiveScience reports that the spider likely crawled into the woman's ear five days before her August 8 hospital visit. A scope of the ear revealed hairy spider with four eyes posing for the camera (pictured above). According to LiveScience, the woman's doctors were concerned if they were to simply go in and try to remove the spider, it would "instinctively drill its barbs deeper, scratching the ear canal." Doctors eventually got it out by pouring saline solution into the ear canal and flushing out the unwelcomed guest. According to the National Institutes of Health, people who think they have an insect in their ear should not reach in, since it may cause the insect to sting or bite. It recommends turning the person's head with the affected side up to see if the insect crawls out. If that doesn't work, have someone pour mineral, olive or baby oil into the ear while gently pulling the earlobe backward and upward (downward for a child); that should suffocate the insect which hopefully will float out with the oil. Even if the insect comes out, the NIH says people should seek medical attention because small insect parts can irritate the skin of the ear canal. Just gives me the willies and the chills....after so many surgeries on both ears, the ear canal openings are very large....and I sleep with cotton in my ears (LOL)...!...then again, a small insect can also crawl up ur sinus, even in ur mouth if you "snore".....
....![]() Guessing we all are gonna have to get "plugged up"....(don't forget the place where the sun don't shine, too!) |

Some homes or buildings are infested with cockroaches, not our house because we only see 1 cockroach every few years and we usually see more house spiders like about 5 spiders in 1 year.

back in 1992, I had a spider crawl in my ear when I slept. woke up, put the hearing aid in and felt stabbing pain in my hear. I figured it was an ear infection. went to work pain kept getting worse. so i went to my doctor. doctor flushed dead spider out. there were multiple bites in my ear canal and ear drum. got scripts for antibiotics. was just happy the spider was not brown recluse.

Itty bitty spider went up the water spout. Down came the water and flushed the spider out. This ditty for kids could be changed to scare. Kids saying the itty bitty spider went down the ear canal. Liked it so much it laid a 100 eggs
