Haberno Pepper challenge at work

Back in 1997, At Post Office Plant, My Co worker and I been talking about how hot are the Haberno pepper. He said Chiles pepper is the hottest. We both debated and decided why not bring em' tomorrow for challenge.

On the next day, while working at Bar code machine, My co worker brought raw Chiles pepper and I brought dried Haberno peppers in bag. So we both ate dried Haberno pepper. We were both sweating but would not run for water. Then he said try this raw Chiles pepper. It turned out to be another Haberno pepper. I told him that's the Haberno!! So He told me to eat it. I ate it and somehow my throat closed up because of it's juice was too strong. I felt like I'm choking, and I couldn't breathe. I ran for water and drank it to open up my throat. It did help but my mouth was "hot" and my face was sweaty LOL. I forgot that my hand was smeared with hot pepper juice and I rubbed my eye and my nose, Ooohhh that hurts!! felt burning sensation in my eye and my nose!! He laughed so hard. I told him that I was lucky I didn't die at workfloor and boss will wondering why I died from?? Both of us had hot pepper aftertaste all night even tried to wash away with food and pops, didn't help much. My eye was teary half of the night and my nose burns!! We both were crazy tho.

Wold hottest pepper

Quote:
Weighing in at 1,001,304 Scoville heat units, the Bhut Jolokia chili from India has been named the world's hottest pepper by the Guinness Book of World Records. Just to put that into perspective, the jalapeno sits at a meager 10,000 SHU.

Early last year, the world's hottest pepper recorded was the Red Savina chili, which registered at 577,000 SHU, but in April that changed to the Dorset Naga which tested between 876,000 and 970,000 SHU. When it gets that hot, I don't really know that the number really makes much of a difference!

The Scoville scale, developed by Wilbur Scoville in 1912, was created to measure the heat level in chillies and is used world-wide today. To give you an idea where some of your favorite peppers sit on the list:

0 - Bell Pepper
100-500 - Pepperoncini
1000-1500 - Poblano
2500-10,000 - Jalapenos and Chipolte
5000-23,000 - Serrano
30,000-50,000 - Cayenne
80,000 & up - Habenero, Scotch Bonnet

I wouldn't do the hot pepper challenge. I'll stick to small sliced of pepperoncini added in food as rest of the peppers are too spicy for me.

Here's something to keep in mind...

Water does NOT help with spices, especially hot peppers. Milk does. Ice cream too.

At least, you didn't try this...

Naga Jolokia - World's Hottest Chile Pepper

If we all ever meet at a party, we should have this kind of challenge!

Naga Jolokia - World's Hottest Chile Pepper
I know water don't help but it helped open my throat. It was scary and luckily there were water dispenser near our machine (it was the only one in Mail Processing section). Manager provided water dispenser because the water fountain tasted bad (it tasted dirt) and got everyone sick so they didn't want anyone use sickleave too much due to bad water. I got sick from water fountain. But about 5 years later, finally water tasted better. I should have water bottle next to me!! LOL.

My co worker and I had to put up with aftertaste all night cuz there's no milk or icecream vending machines in our breakroom. (They finally installed Icecream/hotpocket vending machine few years ago).

I did read about the world's hottest pepper located in India. I could understand that one who ate little pieces of Naga Jolokia ended up swelling ect. I believe it's an excellent Capsican pepper spray product. It would be the most evil of all. spray it on criminals and watch them breaking out and swelling up in a seconds, they'll be screaming in pain. LOL.

If store nearby sells them, I would run for it. I don't care if it's illegal but still I wanna that anyway. I don't want to have guns in my house tho.

I would go for it. I live for extreme spicy foods. I always order the hottest flavor wings and it is never hot enough for me.
