Hello! I'm new here and i haven't a clue what i'm doing! I'm hoh and i have a moderate to severe hearing loss. I love having a hearing loss, i know weird sounding, but it gives me a sense of unque-ness and it's made me who i am. The only thing i'd like to change is the fact that i'm painfully shy! I hope i'll get to chat to somebody else my age who has a hearing loss too!:)
i'll be really looking forward it!!!

Hi Hannah! :) Roscommon, Ireland!!! Well, I've been to Ireland, but I've heard about Roscommon. I am hard of hearing as well, and I have severe hearing loss. Like you, I love having this because it is definitely unique! I too am painfully shy haha--anyway, do you wear aids?

Hello! I'm new here and i haven't a clue what i'm doing!

Hello Hannah Louise! Welcome to this forum.

I live Ireland too by the way, but I am not Irish. I work here.

I'm hoh and i have a moderate to severe hearing loss.

I have 50% hearing in one ear only. I used hearing aids in the past but not anymore. I have never had CI.

I love having a hearing loss, i know weird sounding, but it gives me a sense of unque-ness and it's made me who i am.

That is 'odd' in a sense. But what is more important is self-confidence and a sense of self, an identity to relate to. It will help you later in life. Thinking that you are unique is good.

The only thing i'd like to change is the fact that i'm painfully shy! I hope i'll get to chat to somebody else my age who has a hearing loss too!:)

I am much older than you, but I might still I have something useful to say.

I used to hate my hearing loss but I am more OK with it now. What gave me a sense of self was my realization that hearing people talk to each other a lot and they assume that everyone else is the same, perhaps because they have never come across an HOH or deaf person before. That makes it difficult to socialize with them because they have skills acquired from past socialization. (I mean, do socialize with people but be aware of the differences that exist and the difficulties can arise. And don't give up if you like socializing.)

I used to be very shy too. But instead of thinking of myself as being odd, I started thinking of myself as being different in a positive sense. And knowing or trying to guess what other people want, what they like to speak about, and so on, helped me to get rid of my shyness, but it took a long time. I still find it just as difficult speaking to strangers, but my shyness is gone and I am relieved.

You are not odd, other people are odd. You are very courageous to come this forum. Not shy at all! And never give up whatever goals you have.
