I have been thinking about some things for several months. I have been asking people, "What did you say?" a LOT. I started having problems hearing people...maybe...2,3,4...years ago. Who knows? My audiogram used to be just about perfect. Well, now it ain't so hot. My loss isn't so bad. Some is mild. Some is moderate. I do a lot of guessing. Filling in the gaps. Some lipreading.

I am sick of it. Someone (at a local CSD) told me I should use an interpreter for medical appointments, etc. I thought it was an "odd" idea, but it worked. I had been so "anxious" about going to the doctor's for YEARS. I have a great doctor. I found a HoH psychologist who SIGNS. He dx'ed me with Asperger's and I also have Tourette's. I should really see a neurologist for these conditions, but I see a psychiatrist who is very easy to talk to.

I don't think hearing aids will help my problem. Nothing will.

You are probably making progress since your psychologist has helped you understand your real problem.

As for Asperger's and Tourette's, a neurologist won't be of use. You are in the right place for treatment.

I realize I made a mistake; I shoulda' said, "lots of cool people on here, Deaf AND not Deaf......"

Something I Don't Need

Boy, I was really DOWN when I last posted. I have done a lot of thinking since then, though. This one audiologist told me not to turn my hearing aid up too loud (or I could damage my hearing). She about scared the living blah-blah out of me. But, she thinks I would maybe benefit from a different hearing aid called the Oticon Delta. One of them has a similar fitting range to the one I have. She told my psychologist is is less powerful. It is not. And if I bought it through her place, I would have to pay out of pocket. Which is WAY more than I can afford. She knows that her place doesn't take my insurance. I don't understand why she is doing this. Unless she just wants to make a sale. Phooey Dooey on her. I can hear more sounds with my hearing aid in than with it out. AND, I can hear SPEECH more clearly. And besides that, I still sing in a voice choir. I would have to be pretty STUBBORN (and maybe a little "dumb"-i.e. vain) NOT to wear something that helps me. I mean it's really small and gray, (nobody's gonna see it anyway) and if they do, so what? I'll just talk when I am with Hearing people, and sign when I am with my Deaf friends. I can enjoy both worlds.

That make a lot of sense, defgrl. Just do what you feel is right for you on the hearing aid.

:welcome: to AllDeaf forum. I hope you have fun reading and posting all the threads here. See you around.

Thanks, Beobang

Thank you for your encouragement. There are so many good things in this world. So many things I can see with my eyes. And I can choose to use a HA or not. I might feel differently on different days.

Opps I spelled your name wrong! Sorry.
