I just discovered this site today. I've been reading here and there and thought I'd introduce myself.
My name is Rhonda and I live in Georgia. I have a mild/moderate form of Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I haven't broken any bones since I was 12, so I guess I've gotten better about staying upright I started losing my hearing when I was about 5 years old. It was a gradual thing and I got my first hearing aid when I was 7. I'm 39 now and its looking like its time to get a new one.As for my loss now, to my understanding, I have about a 90% loss in my left ear and 100% in my right ear. Without my hearing aid I am legally deaf (whatever that means). I can hear a gunshot with my aid out but its more like a clap. With my aid I function fairly well. I can hear music and speech but I don't always understand what people are saying, and I can't watch tv without captions. I rely heavily on lip reading so if someone turns away from me while talking....anything they say after that is lost I'm planning to take a sign language class this summer. I should have done it long ago, but better late than never! I am on SSI and have Medicaid, but to my knowledge in Georgia, Medicaid won't pay for hearing aids or ear molds, so if anyone can give me some advice on where to get a good quality hearing aid at a reasonable price I would be much obliged ![]() |

Welcome to AllDeaf.com, FaeryNuff.
Since you are in Georgia, you may want to get in contact with Georgia Council for the Hearing Impaired (GACHI) in Decatur with branch offices all over Georgia. I have heard of several cases where Lion Clubs help people to get hearing aids at no charge, you may want to contact the local chapter about it. Good luck. ![]()
