HOH Nurse

Hi there -

Just joined and hoping to share some useful info and get some in return. I'm a HOH RN. It's been a challenge but I manage to do my job pretty well. Lots of people didn't think I could be a nurse 'cuz of my loss, but it works. I also teach fitness classes which probably isn't the best since my loss is progressive and I don't tolerate acceptable noise ranges. I have adult onset hearing loss, but they think it's a congenital condition and just got overlooked since it started out pretty mild and progressed slowly. Got into trouble in college with large lecture halls - then found out I needed hearing aids and got put right into BTE's to get enough power. My first pair was Siemens and I outgrew them fast. Then got into Phonak and they've served me well, but I just found out I got sold a refurbished pair with all the paperwork saying they were new and my audiologist fell off the face of the earth, so.... starting to look into digitals, but so far not impressed. May have been set poorly by the audiologist. I can't seem to find an audiologist that actually knows much about hearing aids and servicing them; despite what they think. If you can't re-tube a mold or get a mold re-made on the 1st try, then I don't think ya know what you're doin'. Anyway, decided to join and see how it goes.

to AllDeaf forum, HOH-RN. I hope you enjoy reading and posting all the threads here. Wow, being a regisitered nurse is a very challenging career and you make it. I have thought about wanting to be a registered nurse when I was a very young girl, but someone told me what happen if you can not hear the patient whisper or try to tell you weakly and other noises that I could not hear like the stethicope. That was like forty years ago or more when I was a kid dreaming of what I want to be. Well, my dreams of becoming what I want to be got crash as they are telling me that I am deaf. Anyway, have fun chatting or discussing with us. See you around.

Welcome to AllDeaf!

It's great that you have a job like that. It shows that deaf people can do anything if they choose to pursue it.
