Mom of deaf teen son
It would be so cool to talk to others in this situation. I welcome both hearing and deaf Mom's perspective. My son is 17 and goes to an all deaf high school. So I am sure things are not the same if I were deaf as well. We(his parents) do sign but not near as good as he is. And we do write things out sometimes to make sure we get a clear understanding, if there is any question. We are doing the best we can, but sometimes I feel terribly inadequate.

Hey, you guys do sign even though u may not be as fluent as your son. That is great...My brother and I are both profoundly deaf and our parents never learned sign language. Any effort in learning sign language from the parents really make a huge different in the deaf child's life. It shows how much you are willing to meet his deaf needs.

to AllDeaf forum!!! I have to agree with Shel90. It does make a big difference for you to sign to meet half way for him. That is good and I am very happy. My parents(deceased) don't know how to sign with me. It is hard to try to lipread them and still I had to talk to them by voice. Everytime I speak, they laugh at my prounciation. My sister did not learn how to sign but she can fingerspell so that I can understand what she is talking about. So enjoy talking with us.
