I was in in a bad auto accident and had a concussion and I lost more hearing. I thought my HA was broken and it turn out I lost about 5% more hearing. I am surprise you can't find any centers for deaf and hoh , what part of California do you live in? You should try to get your parents to learn ASL too, maybe you could get a friend to learn with you. And Hi!

You should talk to your parents and point out that placement in Deaf classes would enable you to be bilingal.....that in turn might give you an "edge" academicly and socially....You could go to Deaf camp either at the Deaf Schools or at MSSD....they have a camp for dhh kids to learn ASL....Deaf camp is a VERY VERY important supplement for ANY mainstreamed http://www.gallaudet.edu/clerc_cent...ources/info_to_go/resources/summer_camps.html dhh kid!

I would if I could I live in California and my parents are scarred of my speaking American Sign Language because they think it's the end for me but honesty it's the opposite, my mom thinks high school is easy being a deaf kid it's not so I'm gonna talk to them one on one I would love to go to deaf camp

OMG yes I started an asl club in my high school but kids don't take me seriously I try to learn with them but it's hectic I mean many are my friends from basketball but they just think we won't learn asl but I formed it so they could help in the future in case they needed to. I live in the San Jose area about...oh wow I also though my ha were broken as well but it's just me

It's AWESOME that you'd like to go to Deaf camp/school....Believe me, its very common for dhh kids who are mainstreamed to really struggle.....Have your mom read this article:A Different View: Mainstreaming and Inclusion | Different Iz Good
Remind her how hard high school can be for hearing kids......Also another good idea.......Get this book:On the Fence: The Hidden World of the Hard of Hearing by Mark Drolsbaugh Assistive and Hearing Aids Products - Deaf, Hearing Loss, Sign Language There's a piece in it, that accurately describes what life is like in the hearing world for mainstreamed/oral-only kids......

always be positive! for communication, there are always solutions, just knowing how to find the right ones.

if you want, I am a deaf singles, free, poor, nasty, obnoxious, and I have little :D

:welcome: to AllDeaf Forum. I used to live in Riverside and Los Angeles, California where there were many Deaf people there. You still did not mention what town or city where you are living in. You did not answer Whatdidyousay! about where you were from in California. You should be able to meet lot of Deaf people at the Deaf Events. Just have to keep looking for areas where Deaf people meets. Just have fun reading and posting here. See you around here.
