Help needed w/ images

Please forgive me for intruding on this thread but I'm really stuck. I don't have any way to start a new thread, so I'm attaching to this thread in the hopes that someone will read this post and help me out.

Yesterday I was tinkering with some settings under my User CP. Somehow I clicked something that made all my images disappear. That is, all icons, smilies, and some headings, such as "New Thread" are gone. I can't see in which threads I have posted because the little blue check mark icons are gone. The "ALLDEAF" heading is just text, not an image. The posts don't show the quote or edit icons, so I can't even reply to a post without cutting and pasting the original and then scrolling to the quick reply at the bottom. I don't have the advanced posting option, and can't even bold or italics anything. It is very difficult to use AD now. I must have really messed up something.

Can anyone help me? Please.

I am guessing you clicked the "turn off images" checkbox in user options.
Try this:
http://www.alldeaf.com/profile.php?do=editoptions

Scroll down to the middle
Code:
Visible Post Elements
You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.
Show Signatures
Show Avatars
Show Images (including attached images and images in [IMG]http://www.alldeaf.com/how-use-alldeaf-forum/ code)
Check in the "show images" and whatnot that you need. Hope that gets it back up and rolling. If that doesn't work, a forum admin like Alex or SG might have access to edit your member settings.

Alternatively, you might've changed the thread display mode. That's on the same page, and goes like this:
Code:
Thread Display Mode
Here you can choose the display mode for threads. For a full explanation of the modes, please view this help page.
Thread Display Mode:
In there, the default mode for most form users is Linear - Oldest first.

Here is the direct php link to your user CP if you need to do anything else there.

Thank you but I did try that several times, including logging out, logging in, shut down, restart, etc., after making the changes. The only images that I can see are the ones that people attach to their posts. But I still can't see icons, smilies, or editing tools.

Does your screen look like this?
It's kind of sized down, just to see if it looks like that overall for you.

Under "attached thumbnails", I see nothing; the box is blank.

Hmm, this sounds like a web browser problem. From the sounds of it, it seems all your original settings are intact but your browser is prohibiting any images from being viewed from alldeaf.com onto your screen.

Picture #1
Try clicking this link, tell us if an image shows up.

This is the original alldeaf.com logo that shows up on the top left of every page.

can you see this?

Naisho,

I looked around for examples, and I saw your images at this:

http://www.alldeaf.com/pictures-vide...ml#post1189926

But I couldn't see the images on your second post at that thread; just a blank box.

On my screen I can see the http link address. When I click it, it opens a new tab with the ALLDEAF logo image.

But I can't see the actual image on your post.

If you think it's the browser, let me try another one. I'm using Firefox on my PC right now. I can switch to IE on this PC, and I can try Safari on my Mac.

So from what I deduce so far:
#1 You can't see ANY images that are in [img ] tag on alldeaf.com - this goes for any user posted images, attachments, or smilies
#2 You CAN see images that are linked offsite to another website (ie, photobucket.com) meaning that the [img ] reference is working for you.

Yeah, try using IE on the same PC on alldeaf.com. See if everything shows back for you. If it looks like it went back to original on IE, we can assume it's a firefox setting that you might've accidently activated.

Allright, good to hear that is working. Now we know the problem is localized to just Firefox only, via some setting we are not sure.

I'm sure you'll want to switch back to firefox due to the features it offers over IE. So let us see if we can do that, maybe over PM. Maybe we ought to bring this to PM though, because we're spamming this FAQ section and a mod is probably gonna have to do all this cleanup after, lol. Shoot me a PM or post this in another thread in the forum help section.

OK. PM is fine or I can actually start a new thread now.

Thanks for all your help.

I have to leave in a little while, so I will check back later.

Eureka! I tried one more idea, and I got it!

Your suggestion about the browser got me to thinking about my browser Tools-Options-Content-Load Images Automatically-Exception list. I checked that out, and sure enough, "www.alldeaf.com" was on the "blocked" list. So I removed it from that list, refreshed my page, and voila! It's back to normal.

Again, thanks for your help that pointed me in the right direction.

That's great to see the problem has been resolved. It's nice to see members helping each other.

I've moved all these posts from the Forum FAQ thread to this thread.
