Unhappy Hearing aid breakdown

My digital hearing aid for my right ear brokedown this morning(have to use my old analogue for the time being). I would not mind except my right ear is the worst ear & part of the reason my doctor suggested digitals in the first place(I am definitely noticeing the difference UGH).

Maybe your audi can repair it at her/his office?

Mine dies in damp weather, if I sweat, grr. I am saving money for one of those boxes. Now I just use dessicant. At least you have a backup!

An audi told me that the boxes that blow air are unnecessary. And I live in a very hot, humid climate. I have one because my audi gave me one free when I got my hearing aids. Doesn't seem to do much really. Ask around before you buy.

oh, sorry to read! Good luck with the issue. Hubby has digitals and they seem to need to go to company in for repair fairly regularly - and he gets a loaner analog in the interim which he really hates.
Hubby has one those "dryers" w/the bricks and he likes it, but I imagine it isn't useful for everybody

What precisely does 'broke down' mean? And what services are available to you to fix it? When mine break I can access a 'loaner' while they fix it and actually have recently recieved a spare. As to causes of breakdown, if its moisture related (often indicated by turning on and having crackling type noises) a dessicant works well. Just be sure to take out the battery etc to ensure maximum effectiveness.

That's why I use Super Dri-Aid. It works wonders. Keeps my hearing aid dry.

Speaking of Dri-Aid, it's time to "re-new" its moisture absorbers.

The dry and store that uses warm air with desiccant works the best. Since using that machine keeps the moisture in vapor form which the desiccant will absorb the moisture. The Super Dri-Aid, white and blue beads, is my second choice but since the moisture drys inside the aid the switches can get a bit gummy after a while. The Super Dri-ad can be recharge in the microwave making it cheaper in the long run.

I have never heard of dri-store or any of these things before I read about it on here, nobody's ever told me about it. My audiologist told me to wash the tubes in soapy water and clean them every day, though I got a little booklet with my aids that says don't get them near water. Is it because I have slim fit tubes and not moulds that I don't need to do these things? I'm getting moulds next month- should I buy a box thingy (I don't know what they are called but I saw some on the RNID website)?

I have the one that that blows air with desiccant. I don't think that the air is warm though. Hmmmm.... After the hurricane, we didn't have power for 10 days. I put my HA in a jar with desiccant and they were fine.

I have BTE, Melissa. Is that the kind you have?

I thought that digitals were fairly sturdy. I know that the old ones used to require repair.

NHS audiologists don't bother to tell us about stuff like that! You can get a Dry n' Store in the UK from a company called Connevans, here's a link to them if you're interested:

It's not essential to have one because we don't live in a particularly humid climate. I managed perfectly well without one for nearly 38 years, but decided to try one last year, because I seem to be having more problems with my new digitals breaking down than ever I did with analogues.

don't know, may also have to do w/age of these HA's, think in the next year or two he may need to get new one altogether. But I know he really wanted the blower-dryer storage box, which he got when he brought these current aids.

Thanks, djchur. Yeah, I live in Cheshire so it's pretty cold and rainy most of the time. Sallylou, I have digital BTEs with slimtubes at the moment. I'm having problems with the left one so my audiologist said come back in a month and get new aids, but I still can't hear properly from the left one despite cleaning it. I'm broke at the moment..I saw a carton on the RNID site with dessicant stuff in, I wonder if silica sachets you get with bags/shoes and things would work the same.
