Better go for the Naida's if you have DPHL. They will last longer as your hearing seems to be dropping pretty fast.

I don't think Alicia has DPHL, it is very strong in families where it is present and Alicia is the only one in her family with hearing loss. She has a progressive loss but probably not DPHL.

Ok Guys, Cool it down. Enough is enough.

There's no need to start a flame war. This is a warning and if I see any more flaming around that continues; A ban will be in effect.

Just saying.

Naida (since you're with Phonak and probably trade-in) have wide fitting range so it should do you well until it reach to the point that you're ready for CI evaluation to start, and I'm curious once you get that point, what brand you like and are you going to try get bilaterals surgery done at one time or 1 to see what its like first? Isnt that hard to imagine "whoa I'm really deaf"...?

Um I dunno about one side or bilateral but from what i've searched etc I like cochlear over AB, I know AB has more programs or whatever, but since I have more residual hearing I think i would do well with a CI anyways. Plus, I like the style, design, etc of cochlears better

Yeah me too I liked cochlear corp design better (freedom) and having choice of color pink helped a lot haha and it was most reliable and most electrodes that won me over as well.
But now with nucleus 5 skinny processor and pretty snap-on covers I'm solddddddd haha if I get upgrade I can't decide white or black because I love way white look with some girly snap-on cover but same time I don't want the coil to stand out in my hair lol and black will somewhat blend in but its black bleh and I don't want brown. So I'm thinking white processor with black coil? It'd look Mod

Alicia,

Sorry your hearing has gotten worse. My hearing went from normal to severe/profound in 8 years so I can relate. I am getting a Naida next week. I almost got the Zebra but went for the Purple. Another option for you might be the Oticon SUMO DM. If I don't like the Naida I am going to get another SUMO. Good Luck!

So, I'm sorry to hear your HL is progressing further, good luck with your CI/ new HA's, whichever will work for you. Cochlear is good, wide choices of colours and it's comfty on the ear.

Hey Alicia, I've got the Naida, too, and like you, I have a progressive loss. I remember the last time I had a hearing test, about a year ago, and I had lost up to 15db in some of the key midranges. My speech scores dropped from 20% without visual cues to 2%. I was pretty frustrated, but oh well, fairly used to it at this point. I think it was harder on the audiologist than me, LOL!

The Naida is powerful, but the transpositional feature is useless if you have a profound loss at 1500hz and above (which I do). It can't compress frequencies any lower than that. But, the stuff like water-resistance, anti-feedback, whistleblock, etc. are pretty nifty and make it worth it for me.

I'm fairly happy with them, even though the reality is no hearing aid is really going to help my loss much. What does your loss look like? Do you have normal hearing in any frequencies? I'm curious, cause I don't meet many people with a loss like mine, where I have normal hearing in some of the lower frequencies and absolutely nothing beyond 1000hz.

Good luck!

Oh, and I have black housing. I wanted the black and silver, but they screwed up the order and I didn't feel like waiting 6 weeks to wait for change.

I'm not sure how it is done in Canada but I know I got a 40% trade in for hearing aids that were less than 6 months old for a power aid. In the last year I have spent over 8500.00 . The first pair were over 5k the second were worth 5600 but I got the 40% trade in so I had to pay about 3600 the second set less than 6 months later.. sucks =(
