That article was written in 2006. I am not really familiar with bionic ears. Bionic ears same as CI? Does the technology in that article exist today?

A CI is the same as a bionic ear.

I believe they released the Harmony in 2007. So, to answer your question...it exists now.

Yeah, they're the same thing (bionic ear and CI). But with the vast improvements to the CI in recent years, I would call it the next generation in comparison to those in the early 2000s.
