Hello everyone!!!!

My name's Luigi, I'm 35y.o. and I'm from Italy. I've found this forum and I figured it there are lots of different experiences so I put here also MY experience:
I have profound sensorineural hearing loss as you can see in my signature where I wrote my audiogram. The good thing is I recently took an ABR test and I got confirmed I have all the waves (I, III and V) but with a severe latency. Years ago doctors assumed I got sort of a virus when I was still in my mother's body because they found a little hole in my retina's eyes so they assumed I could go blind but I was luck.

At that point, as I remember, when I started to use BTE hearing aids I always choosed Phonak because at that time they were the most powerful HA in Italian market. Actually I'm using Supero 412's BTE HA but I wasn't really really happy with them... probably due to fitting, probably due to software because I used to have my voice like screaming since I got always told from people to low voice.
So I'm in the time to change HA and I tried GN Resound Sparx's HA which they were better than Supero as first feeling because I felt my own voice improved. But my objective is to comprehend much better the voice...like I am "reading the sound of the voice and materialize the word in my mind"... with none of them if I try to concentrate to identify words and "reading" them I feel like they are pretty noisy with Supero. With Sparx's my comprehension was improved only a little but in different locations like at office it was not really better...
Tomorrow I'm gonna try two Naìda III again since I tried them for an hour but I felt the sound like metallic, surely due to the fitting.
Since I'd like also to listen english which I suppose is pretty based on 4K-6K frequency range to be clear, looking at my audiogram in the signature, what would be a good estimate fitting to apply to the Naìda's to reach a minimum good comprehension of voice?....
I'm gonna also try later also Oticon Sumo DM...but looking around the net I read about some Unitron 360/360+ which they are supposed to have better software than Naìda's one but I don't know them in italian market...
Suggests for alternative HA's are accepted though and also for fittings.

Ciao!
Luigi

ciao bello come stai?
What part of Italy are you from? My family is from the south! I would say try the naidas out fully for sure..they are different to get used to since they are transpositional aids they take the high frequencies and make them into low frequencies i believe so they are different that traditional aids that you may have tried. I've heard that the sumo dm is a good aid as well..have you looked at the exelia super power aids by phonak? I almost got those but decided to not spend as much and go with a step lower and got the phonak versata power aids instead. I am sure many more ppl will put their input..i've only used phonak aids so I can't really say much on other brands...

Ciao Alicia!!

I'm from northern Italy, around 50km to Milan...but I'm originary from south italy, precisely Sicily :)
About transpositional frequencies I've heard it makes a bit mess on listening since it would pile up sounds of that frequency transposed and the frequency where those transposed ones are put up, especially when they are both present in certain ambients. What do you think?
But at all my main objective is to increase comprehension speech since with my old HA's I had a bad comprehension speech. On this matter what would be a good fitting in your experience?...
I'm gonna try those Sumo DM too at least to see what feeling they would give me...

Ciao!
Luigi

If you think you would have too much of a hassle trying the transpositionals then don't go with the naida. They have a long adjustment period. Definitely try the Sumo DM though as they are another one of the most powerful aids out there. Again, I don't know much about the super power aids as I only wear a power aid and my loss isn't severe/profound like yours. My new phonak versatas give me excellent speech. I was born hearing though so I may have an easier time deciphering words even if I miss what is being said just be prior auditory brain knowledge of the words and sounds.

We're from calabria so not too far but dialects are definitely not the same lol

For Alicia:

Hi Alicia!

And do you come in Calabria sometimes?... :)
Anyway as you said you haven't so deep deaf like me...indeed! That would give you definately an advantage on comprehension speech...But depends always from the person...
At least now it's 2nd day I'm trying those Naìda III UP and I find for example an improved comprehension speech when listening through FM a radio on my portable MP4....but still I have to see how it goes about real life speech...prolly due it's a new experience for me that transpositional frequency so voice looks different....not "bad" but "different" despite from some people that thinks quickly it's bad. Like a psychological factor. My technician has already those Sumo DM ready to give me... in a week or a bit more I'll change with them and I'll see... ;-)

Ciau!
Luigi

For deafdude1:

HI deafdude1!

Worse than me? May I ask you how do you feel with those Naìda V UP? Do you have all waves on ABR test?...I know normally in strenght severe profound losses, it happens to not see, or even better say "capture" frequencies above 7000Hz...
