Sorry if this thread is repost.

Have anyone ever experence with off balance when they received C.I.? i have not gotten CI but i am dying to hear your experiences about off balance once you got CI.

Mod's Note:

Thread has been moved to it's proper location.

I haven't noticed any difference in my balance other than the dizziness I had right after the surgery. I think this is true for the majority of CI receiptants but I know of a few who had problems with balance after surgery.

That's something I wanted to know as well, thanks Frisky Feline for posting this thread.

I am looking into getting a CI because now that my left eye is completely gone for me. I feel that the CI will really enable me.

The vertigo is based on an individual basis??

yes, vertigo varies from person to person.

in my case, i experience severe nausea and dizziness whenever i turn my head to the side. this only started happening after both of my ci surgeries.

having said that, given how much my ci's have increased my independence as a totally dbp it's definitely worth it and if i had to do it all over again, i would in a heartbeat.

I had more dizziness and vertigo before my surgery rather than after. I have Meneire's disease and that is syndrome that involves the ear and balance issues. Since the surgery, I have not had any of those symptoms and actually can walk a straight line again without having to think about it.

:bump: i want to know anyone of you who had surgery with CI already and had off balance. is the balance getting better eventually?

my surgery was last monday, i was warned i might have dizzyness but after the surgery i didnt have any untill 2 days later when i had to go pick my dog up from the vet and walking accross the parking lot it hit me all at once. i thought i was going to fall over. i stopped and just stood there for a minute untill it passed and went on. since then i had dizzyness off and on and started using a cane just in case but its pretty much cleared up. only get dizzy if i bend down to pick something up or turn my head to fast. over time that will stop too i think.

Yes, I had balance issues after surgery. I had some dizziness and balance issues before surgery and it became worst after surgery. I had to be careful walking down the hallway and not make any sudden turns. I never fell, but the world kept spinning for awhile.

The balance issues corrected themselves in around 4 weeks and complete over within 6 months. A year and half later I haven't had any issues at all.

I still have what I call min-spins post CI, but they are fewer and farther apart than before. That is the meniere's disease that still rears it's ugly head from time to time, though. I did not have any of that during the first month post op.
