and no, i'm not offended because it's true. not all blind or deafblind people are totally blind. in fact, only 3% of the blind population is totally blind and even fewer than that are totally deafblind.

I have just learned something new! Didnt know that only 3 per cent people are totally blind.
off topic my sis' boyfriend has a rare eye condition. It is rare for this condition to go totally blind in one eye but his condition is rarer he will eventually go totally blind in both eyes. He has been in medical journals in the Uk because of it. I have no idea what this condition is.

I am familiar with ROP, but I have a question for you Hear Again... It was my understanding that ROP happened after birth due to an exposure of excessive oxygen levels. Can ROP occur before or during birth? If so, how? (ok, so that was two questions... )

the answer to both of your questions is yes. rop occurs due to high levels of oxygen exposure. it also occurs as a result of scar tissue being attached to the retina and vitreous as well as abnormal development of blood vessels in the retina. http://www.nei.nih.gov/health/rop/

In answer to your questions:
1. Siemens Reflex DSPs 2. Much better than my previous hearing aids 3. Not everything, but I can now listen to music using direct audio input and they work well with my Smartlink radio aid, again using DAI. 4. They're fine, except for the problem mentioned below 5. Severe, Left ear: 80 - 105 db, right ear 70 - 95 db Hi everyone , this is my first post. In July I got new hearing aids, Siemens Reflex DSPs. I also wear glasses and I've noticed that my glasses are causing a dent in my left hearing aid. Has anyone else had this problem? I'm a bit concerned that it's going to wear a hole in my hearing aid!

djchur,
welcome to ad! in regards to wearing glasses and hearing aids, you might want to switch to wire frames. i wear sunglasses (to protect my eyes from overhanging obstacles) that have wire frames and they don't interfere with my ci processors at all.

I read that the Phonak Naida is supposed to take the high frequencies not heard and take it over to the frequencies you hear (low frequencies) in order to hear them. I realize some of you like JennyB has used them, has it helped you hear the high frequencies a bit?

Thank you JennyB and DeafDoc1 for the clarification. I read that some BTE like the Naida can also be for people with less severe losses, so it sems to helps them more than people with severe-to-profound when it comes to hearing high frequency speeches.

1. what hearing aids do you wear? my first set were the Starkey destiny 200s BTE...now within two months i had to upgrade to the Starkey Destiny Extra Power 1200s BTE.
2. How good are they? Pretty good, I wish they were louder though sometimes and I feel almost like I have to work harder with them...of course that could be because my hearing is going down, who knows. I am told that my understanding and my speech has improved from other people...so I guess they're doing their job! 3. Do they help you hear everything you want? Not exactly, but much better than before! 4. Are they uncomfortable? Yeah...the BTE part is really heavy and has been rubbing against my ear...having issues with the molds too (this is my first time wearing aids though (i started in october) so that could be why also. 5. What degree hearing loss do you have? summer it was a mild loss...then progressed to moderate by august and now it's severe. yet supposedly it's not supposed to go down anymore. lol. |

My hearing aid doesnt seem to help me much but my audiologist havent really said anything . The last 2 years when iv been to have my hearing aid and hearing tests they havent really discussed my results and i havent got any results sent home. Hopefully when i move to my local hospital in Feb ill be able to know more(I'm currently seen in a children's hearing centre as I'm currently still in college, i should be transferred to the Adult Services at my hospital after February )

Oction Sumos DX 2. How good are they? Very good, I like them very much. 3. Do they help you hear everything you want? Pretty much everything. I do rely on lipreading though, I can't talk on the telephone, because I can't see the other person's lips. 4. Are they uncomfortable? yes they are very comfortable. 5. What degree hearing loss do you have? I have severe hearing loss in both ears. I don't hear anything without my aids.

The earmold is cut so that the upper part of the ear canal is not there, but there is a loop that goes up. Does that make sense? Sorry about the delay in response! The color of the aids is brown, which matches the color of my hair.
