Hi,

Can anyone point me in a direction where I can find out about how to get some financial assistance in buying hearing aids (for my mother) in PA (we live in S.E. PA)

She recently got a Starkey hearing aid, through a Starkey foundation that was recommended by her audiologist. The very "cheap" hearing aid turned out to be useless though.

However, I'm finding out that some states are more helpful in helping people pay for hearing aids. ... and that people "try" different brands etc...

We're having trouble finding out about this stuff.

Could use some guidance.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The Lions Club Audient Program may be of help to you. It's a national program which provides hearing aids for those in need.

For more information, visit:

http://www.audientalliance.org/patient_faqs.htm

Although this website applies to the northwest region of the U.S., Audient is a national program. Just call the 800 number listed on the website for more information.

Hope this helps!! <smile>

Thanks. Unfortunately that was the last hearing aid she got with help through Starkey.

It was the cheapest hearing aid and was worse that her 15 year old one that had just quit on her.

We're hoping to help her get a better quality this time and not spend months at a time with her not being able to hear.

ToLisaG: You're welcome! :) If I'm able to locate other resources that may be helpful to you and your mother, I will let you know! Good luck!!

ToLisaG: In my state I have found that SHHH, Self help for Hard of Hearing people, is a good way to find other resources in your area. Especially if you, like you say, are new to the game and dont know what to ask or what to look for. Not only do they give you the detailed info and links about what your rights are when purchasing hearing aids but they can also point you in the direction of funding resources that may be more local and are specifically for hearing aids. On a side note, my consumers have also found their group to be a great social support as well. Check out their PA website

It will also have the links and contact info to the local chapters in your area. I hope this is helpful.
