Of course, this is merely talking about marriages, and there's an entire branch of the law created specifically for handling breaches of marriage contracts (divorce law). Seriously? The #1 largest consequence to "irresponsible sex" is "having babies". It costs the most (both to the parents and the public). And guess what? Getting married doesn't change that in any way! If I get my girlfriend pregnant and she has a child... that would be no different whatsoever than if I first went down to the courthouse and got a piece of paper saying that we're legally bound together. Because that paper isn't magic. It doesn't do anything. And it sure as hell doesn't magically give me money for raising a child properly.

How's that irresponsible? People who have more casual sex are less stressed and generally happier with life in general than those who don't.

But that's okay, don't let those cold, hard facts penetrate your warm fuzzy blanket of prudish misconceptions.

A few things:

About half of these can be gleaned from reviewing someone's profile on an online dating site or from their Facebook. Another half of the remaining ones can be determined from a very small handful of dates (assuming you don't suck at dating, that is).

Additionally, you've yet to give a good (valid) reason* as to why someone should abstain either while learning about a person, or after they've learned a decent amount (but not everything) about them.

* Valid reasons don't include "she might try to trick you into getting pregnant by claiming she's on the pill but isn't really" (because that's the kind of shit that maybe happens once or twice a year in the ghetto, but mostly just on TV) or "he might secretly have aids and won't tell you because he just wants to get laid" or any number of other fanciful scenarios. I'm talking about reasons that actually hold for two mutually consenting, responsible adults.

But, there are numerous cases of legal contract where when one dies, the contract falls to the heirs. So unless you are saying that when one partner dies, the other partner becomes the chattel of the heirs, your comparison is moot.

I was talking about personal opinion stuff, for that. I.e: liberal/conservative, religious/not, friendliness, etc. It's prolly different for your generation, since I think the "early adopters" for the 40-50+ range have mostly tended to be peoples' parents and grandparents wanting to keep in touch with kids, rather than people wanting to get to know new people.

I doubt it. Sex-negative attitudes won't be cured with prostitution, because it'll merely enhance already prevalent attitudes that "women who have sex before marriage are all slutty whores" and similar attitudes. I'd imagine he'd merely end up feeling dirty afterwards.
