You are misread - you need to read whole story, also it is not joke.

I read it. I think she got it just right.

It is happening because there aren't gay ghettos as same sex couples are becoming more mainstream.

She said article is BS but it is not.

Many gay couples are less likely to live in gay neighborhoods and they are starting to live in anywhere, same as straight people. There are more straight people move in gay neighborhoods now and the term "gay neighborhood" isn't going away, but there will be less gay and lesbian as more straight ratio, may 60%-70% straight, 30%-40% gay/lesbian.

Also, cost of living in gay neighborhoods are expensive (that's not 1970s anymore) than traditional suburbs so many gay parents prefer suburb because it is family friendly, better school district, more safe and cheaper housing. Now, more Americans accept LGBT rights so they are less likely to be mistreated by citizens.

The neighborhoods will change over time, especially Italian neighborhood, Jewish neighborhood, black neighborhood, gay neighborhood, etc.

From article.

Fewer same-sex couples reside in historically gay neighbourhoods compared to 10 years ago, according to one of the largest studies of sexuality in the U.S. Led by University of British Columbia sociologist Amin Ghaziani, the study found the number of gay men who live in gay enclaves has declined eight per cent while the number of lesbians has dropped 13 per cent.

Ghaziani’s research, which is collected in his new book There Goes the Gayborhood, suggests that San Francisco’s Castro district, New York’s Chelsea, Chicago’s Boystown and other “gayborhoods” are changing as growing numbers of heterosexual households join or replace gays and lesbians.

He offers several reasons for the shift, including gentrification, changing attitudes among gays and lesbians, and growing acceptance of same-sex couples.

Miami Beach used to have gay neighborhood but many of them left to Broward County in 2000s.

Even the Castro district from what I hear is slowly losing it's..."gay flair". There it is because of all the tech companies coming in and taking over everything and causing the housing costs to skyrocket.

Yike, it is ridiculously expensive to live in bay area nowadays.

This thread isn't about anti-gay but it is unfortunate news about gay people move out of gay neighborhoods. I'm sure that straight people live in gay neighborhood support full LGBT rights and they are safer than other districts. I don't think gay population will disappear in gay neighborhood but just minority like less than 50%.

Same with DuPont Circle in DC....

Let me clarify . gay people choose any where to live in anywhere when gay neighborhood / community is fading . But gay community itself is not fading out . They can live anywhere when others accept gay people more and more. The news make it sound like they straighten people out is what I said b.s.

LGBT experts are very concerning that gay neighborhoods may be fading or lose the culture.

They said gay neighborhoods are straightening, it means more straight people move in, less gay/lesbian people likely to live in those area, so it doesn't means that people change their sexual orientation.

That's not bullshit, even my gay friends verified those studies are true after saw change in gay neighborhoods.

It is just like convert from Jewish neighborhood in Latino neighborhood when many Jewish people moved out, so Jewish culture went faded out so that why LGBT experts are concerned about same problem in gay neighborhoods.

Yes. I didn't use the right words for bs. I understand you because deaf community used to be tighten and now it's fading too.

Because of VP, captioning in the movies and TV, and etc, Deaf clubs have faded so that has to have some impact on Deaf culture.

Yes, I notice that and our state used to have a good deaf community in 1980s but not anymore after many deaf people moved out of our state for better opportunities.
