I cannot understand why it's such a big deal visiting the dentist. It has never bothered me at all. Looking after one's teeth is extremely important to avoid further treatments to them.

My eldest daughter has been a dental nurse for 12 years and she loves it.

I don't mind going to the dentist. But, then... I've also had good oral health, so I don't usually need alot of invasive work done. Usually, I get a cleaning and check up, and that's it.

I can understand why some people would hate the dentist, though.

well, for some people who's afraid of dentist and hospital too.

yes, it is important to check up teeth, otherwise it can cause problems.

some people don't floss

some people don't floss or don't like to floss. those two friends of mine told me, some people don't floss and don't like to floss, instead using toothbrush.

I'm not afraid of going to the dentist myself but the thing is, I hate what they are doing to me, ha. The thing is, every time they put the suction in my mouth, it feels like they are taking my breath away too, grr.

When I was younger, I had to wear braces for 2 1/2 years and god, I totally hated going there for every other 2-3 weeks to get it tightened up. I was so glad to get the braces removed. From what I know, now they have a new "invisible" braces for people to wear and I wished I had that when I was younger.

I don't like going to the dentist either, because I don't like going to the dentist..

If you are scared of injections, then I won't say that injections are always painless... But, is a few seconds of potential pain worth avoiding the dentist who can try to save your teeth? In some cases, such as fillings, you may not even require injections because the process is painless.

And, if you know you have problems with your teeth, then chances are, the longer you don't do anything about it, the more time you are going to spend at the dentist, unless they cannot save your teeth. And, bad teeth usually gives you 'dogs breath' anyway.

Terrified of dentist. I brush often with Oral-B electric brush so I can avoid having tooth damage.

Went to the dentist a few weeks ago because (and only because) I was having pain...I saw the instrument and passed out cold. Hit my head on the tray and got a big knot on my forehead.

The dentist referred me to an oral surgeron who will put me under - solely because of my intense fears and my very sensitive gag reflex. Each time he tried to put his finger (and I hate those blue gloves) in my mouth, I would gag. I've already cancelled four times (the most recent was May 30) getting four wisdom teeth cut out (one is growing sideways, literally, under the gum and HAS to come out)...I just can't bring myself to do it. *bawk, bawk!*

The scariest part of going to the dentist is getting the bill.

I've had lots of dental work, orthodonture (braces), and oral surgery done in my 57 years of life, all while conscious. No problem.

I brush, floss, tongue scrape, and swish mouthwash every day, and go for regular check ups and cleanings to keep in good dental health.

I'm not afraid of the dentist. If I could afford it, I'd go even more often and get cosmetic dentistry done.

Argghhhh Dentist ...

People have to realize that if they don't floss between their teeth, it's like a garbage dumpster in between the teeth with foods rottin' in there, I know some people that don't floss it, and you can smell their horrible breath, some smelled like a garbage disposal, some smelled like a rotten dead corpse, it's really disgustin' smells, eew...

I've told people how can you sleeps with a dirty mouth at bed time, I let them know that when they don't floss to get the foods out, it smelled like a landfilled, gross.

I really don't know why people don't like to brush their teeth and floss their teeth, it's unhealthy.

That's right.

Some people don't like floss instead just using toothbrush without floss.

Well some people floss and brush their teeth on a regular basis but still get cavities- like me, for example. I have 5 cavities (yes! 5!) and I'm so pissed...I'm like, I brush, brush, brush and floss, floss, floss..the dentist said it is probably genetic. He said I have gorgeous teeth and could tell that I took good care of them. HMPH. I'm supposed to go and get fillings...but I'm so scared. Maybe I should get drunk first and then go to the dentist.

Get drunk then how will you get to the dentist? After treatment, you're likely to get a buzz and then they'll have to call a taxi for you!

Just went to the dentist two weeks ago. No cavities, just a couple of tooth that needs re-sealing, is all. He said I've got good teeth *modest grin*

I have slowly intently read all the posts regarding either a patient's fear of Dentist or the proceedures done. It seems to me that through the wonderful bleesing from God we have been given the abilty of individualizm. I have respect for those dental professionals whe don't necessarily understand how they can unbiasedly diagnose treat and either resolve or make batter than before. In comparativeness analysis to myself and my love of medicine and the body, symmetrical comparissons can be made.
The fact where I encounter body fuids of all types, microorganizms, and to make it short the "nasty" stuff in the hospital (Infection, smells, bodily wates, blood, vomit, etc,) can be constructively criticized by others. I cannot excplain it but none of the unpleasantries of emergent acute medical cases have somewhat same neural pathways with those of us who "sincerily hate going to hospital" or "sincerily hate seeing the dentist.

There have been many oppinions and individual cases given to particularily why they find the dentist uncomfortable. Everyone has their "thresholds" of tolerence in which something is just too much. For one person just seeing blood, another hearing a dentists drill, others maybe with past tramatic experiences at either the dentist or hospital....so I cant help but notice a lot of parrallels, so now I give my threshold on my point of uncomfort.

In a hospital whatever sights traumas bodly injury or bodily fluid present, I am in no way phased....it just doesn't make me uncomfortable. I use this situation to help me be more effective, proficient, and empathetic. But when you get into the teeth and dentition my comfort and no fear just go out the door. I personally avoid dentists see them probably 1/2 as much as should. Like Jolie...the bill is the worst part of the dental work. but hey if there weren't those who can tolerate working in filthy stinky poor dentition mouths, I think it would just create a much less attractive world in regards to teeth.

I am not a lover of careing for a mouth of poor dentition, but sure love looking as gorgeous smiles!

Go to dentist is one of my pet peeves...

I guess why is because of dentist atomosphere and smelly. He drilled one of my teeth without pain killer shot... (there're no pain killer shot yet at my time). I bite dentist's hand hard when I was a little girl... pain killer shot start when I was teenager.

I am force to go dentist regular no matter either I like or not because I want my teeth to be take care of.
