You need to start working on your family tree. Just because I say so. You will see why. Learn who you are and where you come from. If not, you will regret for rest of your life.

Believe it or not. I have about 15,000 family members on my family tree. I feel it is really worth. I know more history than anyone in my family. I sure love history as well.

do mine for me?

I agree! I have a family tree back the way to 1856 on my mom's side's dad's. Thanks to my oldest cousin who is in late 70's who have been sending me tons of pictures to the day. But sad, I dont have much information on my dad's side.

Oh, I think family trees are fascinating! Do you ever watch the program "Who do you think you are?" I LOVE that.

My husband has researched his family tree (British) and has gotten way back to the 1500's on some lines. Those Brits take good notes, I'll say that for them.

My mom is English and Dutch; we've gone about as far back as we can on those, which isn't very far. One line of the family lived in Vermont before coming to the Midwest. The Dutch line, somewhere way, way back, possibly has some Spanish and/or Jewish ancestors in it, according to a vague recollection of my mom who vaguely remembered something her grandmother said once. Could have been a Spanish Jew who fled to Holland; could have been a Dutch soldier who was posted to Spain.

Not exactly the documentation you'd need to prove anything, but there it is...

We've gone back on the Italian side a ways. My grandmother's great-aunt sang opera at La Scala; that's about the only claim to fame we have.

That, and knowing that the Florentine dialect is the way God intended Italian to be spoken, and Florentine cooking is the way God intended food to be prepared. Romans are a bit questionable, and anyone south of Rome, decent people just don't associate with.

This is the wisdom of the grandmother speaking. ;-)

I thought you already got one. I have too many connections. I have a royal lineage. My great grandma, Olive Drake, told my mom that we're related to Sir Francis Drake. It's hard to find the right connection because there are too many common names like John Drake. Collect family members' census records, birth, death, and marriage records, their sepia/black&white pictures, and so on. It's fun to see what they look like back in 1800's. My 4th great grandpa, Moritz Emmanuel Streiler who was either chief or leader because he got two stripes top on his coat (uniform). I thought it's interesting. Yep, I've been researching a lot lately.

I've seen that program. I love it. I did order a first season - Who do you you are? Unfortunately, the subtitle isn't working. I've called the company and they sent other one out. Same problem. At least, I did watch them on TV, not DVD.

Yea, Collect the types of records are important so you can find the proof who's their parents, DOB/DOD, siblings, and stuff like that.

My joke about documentation meant that my mom's memory, as a young girl, of something her grandmother said about the Spanish ancestor (from back in the 1500's) isn't exactly very much to go on.

I don't speak or read Dutch, so researching that part of the family line is difficult. I know they came from North Holland, and that's about the extent of it. Came to the U.S. before the Civil War.

You can always find out about your paternity grandfather's side of the family. Trust me, I never met my dad's parents. Especially, his biological father. I dug for more information and I got what I want. I found his immediate family. It is important for me to know who I am or where I come from.

This is my 4th great grandfather, Moritz Emmanuel Streiler (1837-1894). (on my paternal grandmother's paternal grandmother's father). He was involved a civil war back then. He was an officer or captain, chief, and leader because he got the stripe bars that worn on his shoulder of the military uniform.

Sowwy abt the blurred picture.

I like this picture a lot. Yep, I am related to these people. The picture was taken about 1890's. My 2nd and 3rd great grandfathers are in there plus 2nd great grandfather's wife. That's my paternal grandfather's paternal grandparents and his great grandpa. You can figure out which 2nd great grandparents and 3rd great grandpa.

My paternal great grandma, Beatrice Boler McDowell. Circa 1916-1918. She was about 16-18 years old. What nationality do you think she is?
