I am renting the basement apartment of this house on the northern mountains of Salt Lake City. It's not so bad since it has a great view of the mountains and the valley.

I love to own the house someday. First of all, I have to focus on my debts FIRST.

Anyway, I live in apartment in SF for three years. Cost of the apt is $$$ gee.

My parents don't mind me living with them in their house for free because they already paid off the mortgage four years ago. All I do is focusing on debts, car insurance, food, and other stuff. I have a feeling that I might go back to LV for a while until I get a job somewhere else.

hm, I live with my mom in a four-bedroom "house" that people dubbed as a "condo/apartment" but it is not really a condo..it is more like a townhouse. It shapes like an apartment complex but townhouse does have two floors... all townhouses share the same walls with SMALL backyards so it look like apartment to most people.

own a house... living near 2 years... and still counting.

I believe renting is just a waste of money.. you just pay rent and the money goes bye bye.. owning a house or condo, townhouse, etc.. your money doesn't go bye bye..

I'm thinking of something... I think once you buy a house.. you can have an option to have a mortgage to pay off all your debts.. credit card, auto loan, etc.etc..

thus, you pay off the debts through mortgage.. and it will become tax-dectuable for your future taxes.. and your monthly payments will be less than those debts. also.. probally the interest rates on those debts will be much better on mortgage.

The problem about down payment. The bank rather to see the debts less than 5,000 thousand dollars. If you have more than 10K debts, you will be overwhelmed to deal with bills, mortgage, etc...

My credit point is 775 % which is excellent. But... I rather not to be overwhelm to pay the house or condo mortgage. What is more, my age !!

No it is not a waste of money..Some People do not want to own a house for a lot of reasons.. See I do not pay water or sewer like owners do I do not pay for repairs that needs to be done in the house if something broken... The Landlord does it. I do not like to waste money on Repairs that going to rip me off I have seen alot of homeowners getting ripped off remodeling their home hire by someone or Repairing their Home...I do not want to be the victim of taken advantage of ... If u notice that Most people take advantage of Senior citizen why? because they think they wouldn't figured anything out. Just like Single Mothers too.

I don't think renting is a waste of money. My sister in law is renting a townhouse to buy (pays the rent, to pay off the house) and has been living there 2 years now, happily with her hubby and 3 kids.

To me, Rent money is dead money! In the long run, you will rent the house forever, and the homebuyer will stop pay the mortage and houseowner with good investment $ for their offsprings.

Yes, for renter people, they don't pay for water, rates, house repair etc, they won't feel security living there knowing the landlord have the right to refuse to re-lease the rent agreement contract etc. Renters will be forced to shift their things all the time.

I understand it suit some people to live in a rent house for various reasons.

Jeremy & I am renting a duplex apartment right now. It has 2 master bedrooms, large living room & dinning room...medium bathroom and kitchen.. plus porch. It's really nice and we love it alot. We plan to have a house somewhere near the view of the mountains in a few years. We would like to have a 4 bedroom house with a garage and big backyard in the country.

actually, if you rent to BUY.. its not waste of money, cuz your rent goes to paying off the house. We have that here and my sister in law is renting a house to buy.

That's true, where I live at the moment, I don't have to pay rent, I live with my boyfriend and we want to move out eventually. Even though I don't want to be paying off someone else's mortgage, it's cheaper and easier. One day, we'll just buy land and build our own house.

It is true that rent is a waste, but not everyone can afford to buy a house, at least at some time of their life. Also, some people do not want the committment of having a house to maintain and keep up, so they rent and leave it to the landlord to take care of that responsibility. Plus, some people may not want to stay at an area forever, so they rent, then move to a different place later on.

Exactly...

I received many disadvantages over Landlords because I myself had an experience for 3 years before bought a land to build our dream house.
Landlord do what they want with tenants. I received alot of complaints over landlords what they dislike rent agreement...
Some of werid agreement like this:
No Pet Allowed...
Shower/Bath are allow to use between 6am & 8pm... (because neighbours need peace)
No noise between from 1pm to 3pm (the children had to learn to be quiet)
No wash clothes hang at outside or garden work at Sundays
No BQ parties are allowed to use 8 times a year.
then more.....etc etc etc
No Mowing the garden from 7pm.

Some of Landlords let them to have pets due to contract agreement...
No barking between 1pm & 4pm...

The Landlord can change/renovate your appartment what they want like heaters, etc. Alot of Anger....

I OFTEN read the newspapers over the fighting between Landlords & tenants... Example like neighbour complaint over noise sex at other thread...

I rather own my house to save the hassle.. & good advantage about our future pension like what RedRum stated.

The neighbour & I shared our turn on each week to clean the stairs every 2 Saturday until one day I was busy to prepare to host the visitors. The neighbour remind me to clean the stair. I told her friendly that I hae no time then IŽll do it tomorrow (Sunday). She said No, right now with annoy look because she want to be quiet at Sunday.. She complaint to my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law came to upset us then took the basket & water, then clean the stair for us. Can you imaged how you react like this? Real hot like fire! It's not first time, they keep on complaint to her that we made noise when we received the visitors, do fitness... etc. etc. I got enough.
Now I'm happy with house with no complaint.... I do what I want... I can hang the wash outside because it's my garden. I can wash my car what I like because it's my yard. We can grill our meat at our garden what we like... Nobody can tell us what to do.

The landlord gave my friend notice because they sell their house to other owner....., because their children want to live there....., because .... because .... because.... Alot of disadvantages.. You have to be careful to deal with landlord before sign the agreement contract .
